The Panthers are in the 8th playoff spot, with the potential to make the playoffs for the first time in 7 seasons. Jay Bo has made no indication he wants to re-sign with the Panthros before the end of the season, and has put together the kind of year that could net him the richest UFA contract since the lockout. He's 25, which would also make him the youngest UFA there's ever been, and is a lock for Team Canada in 2010. He's also as low maintenace as they come.

Do you cash in now when chances of re-signing him seem low, but knowing full well you'll never ever have another Jay Bo and might take yourself out of the playoffs? Or do you keep him and try and convince him that Florida is on the up by having a taste of postseason action for a change?

I voted yes, but on second thought, Martin might blow his Waddell and trade valuable picks and prospects for some low-grade rentals all for the honor of getting their arse handed to them in the first round. Given how clueless Alan Cohen has proven himself to be in the past, and also given that he's still feeling the sting of trading Luongo, I say the Panthros don't trade him and take their chances.

No. After losing OJ and giving away Luongo, losing their remaining marquee name sends the wrong signal to fans and teammates about the front office's commitment to anything resembling a team... They're not that dumb... Are they?

I actually think Florida might have won the Jokinen trade... Ballard has been very good, and Boynton seems to have bounced back to be at least a capable noble warrior.

If they're continuing to play strong through February, no way do they trade him, IMO.

I should've re-worded this question... would you trade him if you were in Florida's position?

Votes yes, Florida got a far better chance of making the playoffs without him than winning the cup with him.

What about Kaberle for J-bo with conditional something or other if J-bo signs or not? Obviously they lose a bit from the team right away as J-bo has moved past Kaberle, but they'd have Kabs for two more years, maybe that makes it worth it?

I would trade him if you can get a solid NHL defender back as part of the package.

That way you can sell it as, "it's only a temporary downgrade at one position, we can still stay afloat for the playoffs, but look how much we're getting back!"
