In my very long running keeper league, I have run into a snag.

We are allowed to carry over 1 goalie each season. I have Brodeur and Schneider. All was well until Schneider got traded to the Devils. Now I have no real starting goalie. Which do I keep?

I also have Vokoun, but same thing...

I'd roll the dice and keep Schneider. Brodeur hasn't been an elite goalie for a while now.

How many teams. You may want neither.

Keep Schneider. If he doesn't take over starting this season he will soon enough and as such at the very least he'll have good trade value in a keeper league.

12 teams, very competitive.

I have the 2nd pick in the draft, so will be picking up a goalie right off in either case.

Going to be keeping Ovechkin, Kane, One of the aforementioned goalies and either Doughty or Phaneuf.

Our keeper restrictions are:

4 Players
Max 1 goalie
3 skaters, 1 of which must be a defender.

So yeah, 4 team league and the first 4 rounds are already spoken for with keepers.

I need to set them by tomorrow night.

I say neither and go large with your first pick. Do you receive any compensation for that?

Nope, I have to keep one of them. Still going to go large with the second pick though. Have to wait and see who is available but there are a few teams that are going to have to expose some good goalies.

I agree -
New Jersey is somehow always competitive, but I think they are a long-shot to make the postseason & would thus look elsewhere for goaltending.

If you are insistent on keeping a goalie; I would of course go with Schneider as I suspect he will be statistically superior to Brodeur this year.

What are you using for a league out of curiosity? ESPN?

Use Yahoo, but this league has been running for about 15 years now and the rules have sort of evolved over time.

Goalies tend to be overly valuable as they contribute to five stat categories. Some categories have been added to skaters over time to try to even this out but goalies still tend to be overly valuable. I've been carrying Marty for the last 13 years. Gonna hurt to finally have to let him go.

this has been consistently the most competitive league I play in each year. No money, just bragging rights. There might be an opening this season for a new team as we have not heard back from two of the managers yet. The other 10 are already signed up.

Top 6 make the playoffs and loser bracket then plays for draft position. We put this in years ago after we noticed that once a team was out of it, their owner would disappear.

Having 4 keepers has really promoted long term planning and as I said, it has been very competitive. I spent many years at the top of this league but have fallen on hard times in recent seasons. Last year looked really good until I ran in problems in goal. Schneider was supposed to start but ended up in a time share and Marty got hurt. Missed the playoffs by 1 point.

Anyhow, if anyone is interested and a spot opens up, let me know.
