A victory for the people: the GMs wanted the protected and available lists kept private because they're horrible people, but after complaints from fans and media, the NHL has decided to make them public.

Seriously, NHL GM's are such a humourless bunch. It's hockey, guys. You're not building the atom bomb.

I find so many sports people take sporting their sport way too seriously.

At every level.

This is a game.

Invented as a diversion from the pain of reality.

No one dies when people feel bad about not being protected.

If anyone commits suicide or dies in a drunken car crash after the list comes out, it's all on you!

I think it should stay private. Just because the speculation of who Vegas might have had the chance to choose is far more interesting than why they didn't pick players we know were available. If you leave mystery, it can be debated forever.

And being left unprotected but not being chosen basically means two teams don't want you.

Well, they can only take one player per team so not being chosen means that just wanted someone else more.
