If Tampa somehow blows this, the growing rep of Stamkos as a playoff choker (which I don't care for at all, but it'll be out there) will only gain momentum.
Wait, what is this?
I've seen it mentioned before. I don't have the numbers in front of me but I don't believe #91's postseason numbers are anything to write home about. Again, I hate narratives like this, I don't care if it's Bobrovsky or Datsyuk (early in his career at least) being a playoff performer can be just as much a stroke of dumb luck as anything else. Just look at guys like Fernando Pisani, Bryan Bickell, and the like. I just feel like if Tampa loses this one (and I don't think they will) then people are gonna hyperanalyze this to a ridiculous degree.
It shouldn't be a huge cause for alarm. If I recall correctly, Lumbus won the first two games of last year's opening round on the road, then the Caps promptly steamrolled 'em en route to a Stanley Cup win.
Of course, typed out a reply and lost it.
Stamkos' ppg average does have a drop but I don't know if I've heard the choker label thrown around.
I looked up Nash's numbers and funny enough, Stamkos's playoff ppg is basically the same as Rick Nash's regular season ppg.
Yeah, Datsyuk's early numbers were ugly but had some explanation. A long run as a rookie on that stacked '02 team throws off the numbers a lot. The lean 03, 04 and 06 years I believe he was injured for at least one but they were lean for sure.
