Gibson hasn't looked great. Maybe they should have gone with Miller but likely wouldn't have made any difference. The Sharts are on a mission. Dig that Kane pick up.
What wil Ducks will do with those NMC's. Would Getzlaf, Perry, or Kesler have any value at this point in the proceedings?
Here's the thing that for some odd reason both Ottawa and Anaheim don't get--if you're gonna be a budget team, fine. But if you're going to do that, you can't be handing out mega-contracts to 2-3 players and then go cheap everywhere else.
However, I think there are enough bad GMs in the league who'd trade for one (or more!) of those big contracts in an instant. I imagine they could be prompted to waive their NMCs under the right circumstances, it just lets them dictate where they get to go (which Kesler has already done once). And hey, it's not like the three of them are truly horrid players, in fact Getzlaf was quite good this year. As to how good those deals look in a few years, well...
The Ducks of course are in better shape than the Senators because for some odd reason they draft and develop talent amazingly well. Especially defensemen. More resources Murray can just go and squander while he fills the ranks with goons and grinders.
Sharks hit their stride at exactly the right time. Started out looking so very mediocre, then entered the home stretch of the regular season absolutely roaring.
