Let the annual finger pointing begin in Washington. Shut out by Marc-Andre Fleury in game 7.

As bad as he was in Game 6, he was that good in Game 7.

Great game 7 by the Pens. Just don't know what to make of Ovi anymore. He is a pure goal scorer but his he doesn't have enough diverse elements in his game to be a championship leader. I thought it was the Caps year and picked against Crosby in this series. Never pick against Crosby in a big game - this is a gutsy team even with holes in the lineup.

Ovi was middle of the pack in terms of ice-time among Caps forwards. Shouldn't they have just run him out there 20-25 minutes?

Just watching the goal highlights with OV and his lack of defensive care would say his lack of ice time was likely earned. Lack of defensive awareness I can tolerate in an offensive star but this guy flat out coasting in a game seven is ridiculous. If I was a Caps fan I would be furious with the guy.

Ovi will miss his beloved World Hockey Championships with a LBI. Excuse or legit?

Russian hockey journalist in DC Slava Malamud absolutely eviscerated Ovi on Twitter last night, saying he doesn't have the personality to carry a team. He's known Alex since he was 17 and says his fellow Russian journalists feel the same but feel uneasy about voicing it, especially ones back home since Ovi is a public face of Putin's propaganda machine.

Ovi comes from a rich family and has grown up being told by everyone that he's the best and doesn't understand what it means to lead. He says Leonsis has built the Caps world around Ovi and they're basically in a fantasy land.

Nor the position. He's a scoring winger - a one-dimensional player (I know he's one of the best scorers of all time but you see my point).

On the flip side, we've seen Ovi play a reckless, all-out style of hockey that you certainly don't see from the kind of passenger or spoiled rich kid that they seem to think Ovi is. We've also heard from Bruce Boudreau that he's entirely coachable and will do what is asked of him. He did what Dale Hunter asked of him. He did what Oates asked of him.

Maybe he isn't the a great leader or isn't built to carry a team anymore. But is that his fault that for his entire career his team hasn't made changes to adjust to that? Like, weren't Brooks Orpik and Justin Williams supposed to be some kind of magic tonic to fix this team's losing ways? If this is coming from Leonsis all the way down, then blame Leonsis.

People love to criticize Kessel and Ovechkin because they aren't Toews and Crosby. Well, how many guys can be? I grow tired of everyone wanting or expecting star players to be the perfect players. We live in a world where Malkin isn't a top-100 player, apparently.

Some of his defensive laziness is inexcusable, yes. But people love to take those small playoff samples and turn them into a larger narrative. There's so much that goes into it besides one guy. This isn't basketball.

Yep the Caps long history of playoff futility is on Leonsis not Ovi.

It should be noted that the Caps panicked early on in the Ovechkin Era and pretty much dismantled an amazingly talented and stacked team because they thought it was too soft. They've been pretty much scrambling ever since.

Leonsis is the modern-day Ed Snider. Willing to shell out the dough, but so impatient and meddlesome he counters his own successes. This is probably turning into another Jagr-type situation soon enough.

The 09-10 Caps team that got stonewalled by Jaro Halak deserved a better fate. They've been paying for it ever since.

The Caps have always been a Kesler and/or a Pietrangelo away from winning. Two big guys who can take the tough minutes.
