Because, why not?

East:

Capitals vs Flyers- Flyers in 7. I'm probably going to really regret that, but I can hope. I look forward to Gudas & Wilson actually killing each other in a single dirty hit.
Panthers vs Islanders- Isles in 7. Please. Come on, damn it!
Penguins vs Rangers- Rangers in 6. I think the Penguins peaked too soon, like Roy Selridge.
Lightning vs Red Wings- Lightning in 6. Sorry Bosc & RW. Just think the Bolts have more these days.

West:

Stars vs Wild- Stars in 6. I hope Vanek watches all of it from the press box & gets bought out.
Ducks vs Predators- Ducks in 5. Can we get a Flying V???
Blues vs Blackhawks- Blackhawks in 5.
Kings vs Sharks- Great matchup. Lots of OT games, with the Kings taking it in 7.

There are my sure-to-be wrong predictions.

East:

Capitals vs Flyers- Capitals in five and that is being generous to the Fly guys just refuse to predict sweeps
Panthers vs Islanders- Panthers, just love the overall makeup of the team better and they get the better goaltending.
Penguins vs Rangers- Rangers in six as the Pens will not be able to outscore the amount they let in.
Lightning vs Red Wings- Wings in seven as the Lightning injuries are really that bad.

West:

Stars vs Wild- Dallas in seven but near a coin toss for me.
Ducks vs Predators- Ducks in six, strong second half.
Blues vs Blackhawks- Hawks in five, tough match up and just seems like something is missing from the Blues.
Kings vs Sharks- Sharks in seven, close series but the Sharks have the better backup goalie...

If the Caps manage to blow it in the first round this time, that's it. Strip it down and start from scratch. I'm serious.

Nobody but me is picking the Isles. No worries.
Plus I picked the Bolts. Let's hope we're wrong on our picks against each others' teams.

Yup. Wings and Isles never meet in the playoffs, so I'm always rooting for the Isles. Can't help but want them to win for you.

And same for the Wings.

Although I just realized that would set the Isles & Wings on a crash course for round two, when I won't be so pleasant toward you or your stinking Wings! :viking: But yeah, hey, first round- Go Wings!

Eastern Conference

Washington v. Philadelphia - Washington (The Capitals should win this easily)
Florida v. NY Islanders - Florida (I'm rooting for the Islanders)
Pittsburgh v. NY Rangers - Pittsburgh (The Penguins come into this series on a hot streak)
Tampa Bay v. Detroit - Tampa Bay (Detroit is sucking wind. They probably shouldn't even be in the playoffs)

Western Coference

Dallas v. Minnesota - Dallas (Dallas should win this easily)
Anaheim v. Nashville - Nashville (Home ice should win this series but Nashville looks like a really good playoff team this year)
St. Louis v. Chicago - Chicago (I'll keep picking Chicago until they lose)
Los Angeles v. San Jose - Los Angeles (Same as Chicago. I'll pick L.A. until they lose)

Let me tell you about the craziest thing I’ve seen this season. I was waiting outside the locker room at the All-Star Game to meet up with Kris Letang. So I’m just standing around, and I look to my left, and I see this absolute behemoth walking towards me.

I just see these legs. It looks like an NFL fullback is coming at me.

I’m thinking, Who the hell is that?

I look up, and it’s Tarasenko.

I knew they called him Tank, but I’ve never seen a hockey player with that kind of build. His lower body, I can’t even explain it.

Whitney
That kid, it’s a joke. When I was in camp with St. Louis, I kept doing double takes. Tank makes Sid’s legs look like my legs. It’s crazy.

Rupp
Chris Kreider and Sidney Crosby are the only guys who have blown me away with their lower body strength. But Tank was a new level. He walked in and I was actually looking up and down in disbelief. He was probably like, What the heck is this guy doing?

He’s a beast. He’s not going to shy away from traffic in the playoffs. Everybody knows about his release and his skating, but he’s also built to go right through you. To have a superstar built like that? Holy crap.

Glad I didn't go to Vegas with these predictions!

So, Round 2.

Isles vs Bolts- Bolts in 6, I'm very sad to say.
Penguins vs Caps- Capitals in 7.

Predators vs Sharks- Sharks in 5.
Blues vs Stars- Stars in 6.

Again, I'm sure to be wrong on most. There's 1 series I certainly hope I'm wrong about.

So even though I was wrong on Panthers, Ducks, Hawks and Kings, they went how I wanted them to. Only Detroit didn't. 3/8 but 7/8 happy. Awesome. Only sad to see Boudreau and Luongo lose. Kopitar too.

Only 4 out of 8 for me, but like Bosc, I am happy with most of the outcomes. :)

East:

Lightning in 7 ( pulling for Isles)
Pens in 6

West:

Blues in 7
Sharks in 6

Three out of eight. Good batting average anyway.

I'm eliminated from the prediction game. Sharks all the way on the back of their superior backup goaltending is my only prediction left.

I'm excited about who's left. Mostly teams with fanbases that deserve a Cup.

It would be great to see any of Washington, St. Louis, San Jose, Nashville finally get over the hump. Isles fans have been waiting a long time to return to the promised land, and Dallas has spectacularly rebuilt itself after some lean years.

Crosby and Malkin are too good to just be one-time Cup winners, and Tampa got close last year.

5 for 8 in Round 1 as per usual. Happy with the new blood.

I love that these playoff's are wide open now and that teams emerging with new storylines in the mix. So glad to see the Ducks and Kesler's mug gone.

Therefore in the spirit of the underdog, I'm going all gut picks this round with not much brain.

It's been 7 years since we've seen the Crosby/Ovechkin playoff matchup which should be an instant classic.

My gut it telling me the 'Guins will take this series, but Ovi has so much more artillery at his disposal this time around, not the least of which is a Jack Adam's calibre coach, the best goalie in the world this year and the pedigree of Justin Williams sure to bring some clutch performances. It just seems like they haven't been playing their best hockey in almost 2 months and they looked very beatable against the Flyers. I'm taking the Penguins.

Isles over the Lightning, for reasons that defy logic. Just love their underdog role and the way that Taveres goes quietly about his business leading this team. Greiss is playing out of his mind. He's one hell of a competitor.

The Blues finally slay the dragon and will prevail over the Stars. The Stars just aren't deep enough on the back end to match the Blues power and don't have the goaltending mask their defensive deficiencies. They won't be able to score themselves out of their problems against the Blues. Although not really a clear underdog here, this is a pick 'em series. I think it's the Blues year.

Keeping with the underdog motif, I am taking the Preds over the Sharks, even though I think the Sharks will ultimately prevail. We'll see how prepared the Sharks are to grind after a week long layoff. Also starting at home doesn't seem to be an advantage at all for teams anymore - doubly true for the Sharks this season. The Preds stay out west with a short flight from LA to SF for game one. They're on a high and are in rhythm.

East
Isles over Lightning (pulling for Isles)
Pens over Caps (pulling for Pens)

West
Blues over the Stars (pulling for Blues)
Preds over Sharks (pulling for Preds)
