Ha HA - blooper on Sportsnet's pre-game coverage of the Calgary/Chicago game. Reporter was bummed after he mispronounced Sarich's name and must have forgot they were live:

Reminds me of the time on MNF Al Michaels blurted to Dan Dierdorf "No shit!" and the both of them awkwardly went into a Curly "Nyah-ah-ah" routine before continuing.

Funny thing is I'm not sure why he was so upset about the mispronunciation, it's not like he butchered it. He'd go freakin' nuts after watching how badly the local Altitude anchors destroy names on a regular basis.

They said something like, "Obviously that was a bit of a blooper there" and just moved on. Played it pretty well, actually -- there is a Youtube with their reaction posted on HFBoards at least.

Millions mispronounced a hockey player from Saskatchewan's name? Damn it, he's forgetting his Sportsline roots!

We had a NY news anchor miss his cue, sat there reading his notes. The woman newscaster who had tried to pass off to him, rolled her eyes & read his lines. when she thought they were at commercial she yelled "What the fuck are you doing?" They hadn't cut out yet & it was shown.

I believe he fucked up a player's name then thought they cut to commercial and he said, quite clearly, "Cocksucker! And I thought I was doing so well!" or something to that effect...

This basically wasn't Millions' fault in the slightest -- it wasn't a live recording! I'm sure reporters (and actors, game show hosts, etc.) curse all the freaking time when they're not live.

Millions did break a cardinal rule in broadcasting by being careless about what he said near a microphone. But this was not a hanging offence because he knew the item was being taped and edited. The trouble is, no one up the line did their jobs properly.

The next culprit was the camera man, who was responsible for cutting the tape and sending it to Sportsnet. Rather than erase the offensive bit, as Millions thought he would do, the entire tape was sent.

At the studio, whoever received the tape did not bother to check it completely. Presumably there was an editor who saw it next to prepare the item for broadcast and this person failed to catch it, too. And there must have been a producer in the studio who also failed to review the report as well.

Sounds like the same crew must've worked for Stephane Dion previously.

HA! That's even funnier, especially if Millions was watching when they played the wrong clip.

I'm serious - I laughed to tears just reading this post.

If you can PM me with info, I'd greatly appreciate it.

It was actually the "Mighty Dykes". It was a slip of the tongue by sportscaster Don Taylor when he was on a long-running Vancouver nightly sports recap show called "Sports Page". It was innocent enough -- he just stumbled over his words -- but he then spent the entire rest of the episode giggling through the rest of his coverage. Just when you thought he was past it, he would start laughing again.

Taylor commented recently that when TSN and Sportsnet came along, they did it bigger and better and basically made sportspage redundant... CKVU was never a sports only station, they capitulated along with everyone not named CKNW when the sports only stations started up...
