If you watch baseball at all and I only watch it rarely now, keep your eyes open for a very rare occasion. Miguel Cabrera is only 5 hits away from joining the 500 home run/3,000 hit club. When he does hit his 3,000 hit he will become only the 7th MLB player in history to ever accomplish this feat. He should be able to do it in the next couple of games. Hopefully, he'll be able to do it in Detroit. We could use some good sports news for a change.

3,000 hits is my favourite cumulative stat in baseball. Athletic did a big piece on Miggy's 3,000 https://theathletic.com/3248050/2022/04 ... 3000-hits/

Consistent hitting seems like it's harder than ever now. An impressive accomplishment in any era.

Some pitcher records are becoming impossible, like 300 wins. Not sure how some of the base line hitting stats will hold up. 3,000 hits is tough in any era, and 500 homers is back to being for the biggest mashers.

Trout had 1,427 at age 30, for example. Machado at 1442 is a good bet.

I really like what analytics has done to hockey, and basketball as well to some degree. I DO NOT like what it's done to baseball. Teams are just burning out pitchers faster than ever because some chart told them to bring the heat every time, and hitters are swinging for the fences more than ever.

I'd be okay with them moving/lowering the mound, and banning shifts entirely. I'd also begrudgingly accept a pitch clock, but teams just have to let pitchers control their own games. If they want to hurl with abandon, fine, but if they don't, that's okay too. Nothing wrong with a good junkballer.

Cabrera goes 3 for 4 tonight against the Yankees and stands at 2,999. I would think he'll get 3,000 tomorrow afternoon. Another amazing statistic Cabrera may achieve is if he retires with a .300 or better lifetime batting average. He is currently at .310. If he retired with that lifetime batting average he'll join Hank Aaron and Willie Mays as only the 3rd all-time player to accomplish those three career acheivements.

That career BA is nuts. Buster Posey retired early with a .302 average, which will hopefully help his chances of getting into the Hall.

Tried to watch that game...but as a Red Sox fan it goes against my very nature watching Yankees broadcasts and ultimately I had to turn back to the Sox.

It took a couple of rain-outs but after the games started it took 1 at-bat and voila, 3,0000 hits for Miguel Cabrera. This is what it looked like in Detroit on Saturday afternoon. On a personal note, my brother guessed the correct day and time and got two front-row seats right next to the Rockies dugout and looking right at first base for Cabrera's 3,000th hit. A nice family double as I was at Joe Louis for Steve Yzerman's 500th goal.
