Wasn't Ortiz linked to 'roid use?

Failed a previous test, but he's a nice guy who played in Boston so he gets a pass.

I think he was named in the 2003 report as someone who failed a test but apparently that list was shady...

Gotcha. I remember NY sports radio was full of accusations of the Mitchell report (2007) being shady since it had quite a few Yankees and almost no Red Sox; quite convenient since Mitchell was a Red Sox fan.

Pitchers went down like flies because pandemic restrictions messed with their schedules. Now the owners are going to mess up another season with a pointless lockout. This sport keeps shooting itself in the foot.

Any hope MLB had of actually behaving itself went right out the damned window the second Fay Vincent was forced out. Then they put a literal owner in charge with Selig. But I'd take Bud a thousand times over now that Manfred is in charge. He's so fucking petty he managed to get Ken Rosenthal fired at MLB Network.

Imagine if they had just started negotiating more than a couple of weeks before they started losing games.

What a bunch of fucking idiots the owners are.

Respect to the old guard who actively want the younger players to get paid. There's a clear understanding of how valuable those years are to teams now and how important it is to get paid then vs. keeping the $ in the later years, which is disappearing even though some of the old guard still preach the "pay your dues".

I don't understand what that even does.

I would be 100% behind an automated strike zone (and I would call it the Angel Hernandez rule) and a ban on shifts entirely. Pitch clock...maybe. I dunno, a clock of any kind in baseball seems sacrilegious.

Also get the fuck rid of these 7-inning games and extra innings rules. Baseball is meant to be played in perpetuity if necessary. Longest baseball game in history (minor league though) was 32 innings. They actually had to stop and finish the game the next day. That's baseball, dammit.

Still not sure about playoffs and rule changes, but I think this will be Tampa's year. So many power arms and Wander will push them over the edge.

I like the Giants too, a full season of Webb and Rodon mowing guys down will keep them in the hunt long enough until they acquire a midseason bat.

I like the Seiya Hey Kid's odds of mashing at Wrigley.

Rockies are gonna give me hope with a decent start in the first one or two months of the season when baseball doesn't matter only to implode completely down the stretch. Bullpen looks as awful as ever but the starting rotation...if it stays healthy...could cut the mustard.

Props forever to Charlie Blackmon. The man has done everything asked of him and then some, busted his ass completely both on and off the field for the single most lazy organization in all of professional sports. Whatever happens this season, he'll always be a favorite of the Coors Field Faithful. Also has the single best walk-up song of all time. Fans break out singing every time.

That's fantastic. Incredible beard on that guy, too.

The Jays have not, in fact, acquired Jose Ramirez. We will see how quickly the Guardians tire of actually paying a player.

Meanwhile, prospective Expos ownership group member Mitch Garber says baseball is dead in Montreal. Bronfman won't try again after getting dicked around by Manfred. I don't think MLB will lose much sleep over it.

Manfred is too busy trying to kill the actual sport of baseball to bother reviving it in cities where it could thrive.

The Giants aren't bad but they're not great, either. Incapable of being healthy and rolling a full lineup.

Meanwhile, the Rockies are VERY bad, but...not like it's their fault. Connor Joe and C.J. Cron at least ended up being a couple low-key pickups by the otherwise grossly incompetent Jeff Bridich.

Stolen bases should up incredibly next year. Two pick off/off the rubber per PA? crazy.
