MLB is the biggest thing holding the WBC back, even though it's their idea. Not on MLB TV, no directive to teams to send their best, and shoddy merchandise like you said. Canada's jerseys were butt ugly.

It's like they think it'll somehow take away from the MLB season, even though all it does is get people MORE excited about baseball.

The perfect ending to the WBC: Ohtani on the mound vs Trout at the plate. Japan wins an epic final, the two best baseball players on the earth may now return to mediocrity on the Angels.

German booted, suspended 10 games for "the stickiest hand I've ever felt" according to the umpire crew chief.
https://abc7ny.com/sports/german-ejecte ... /13256686/

It's his second suspension for this. What a dumb ass.

Not MLB by any stretch, but this is a hockey site, so putting a high school baseball link into the MLB thread isn't too bad.
https://www.cbssports.com/general/news/ ... ike-three/

Team thought they won it on a strikeout and celebrated. Team batting realized the third strike had been dropped and both runners kept going, winning it 6-5. That's some crazy shit.

Yankees pitcher Domingo German with a 99 pitch, 9 strikeout, perfect game Vs the A’s. Only the 24th perfect game in league history. 4th by a Yankee.

The Orioles won 100 games, the Yanks/Bosox miss the playoffs, and Acuna hit 40 HR and stole 70 bags. Crazy season.

Meanwhile, the Rockies LOST 100 games for the first time in the franchise's 31-year history.

The reaction has been mostly apathetic, seeing as how the Broncos were handed a historic loss the same week, and hockey and basketball are ramping up their seasons soon. Nothing will change in Denver until Dick Monfort is usurped as owner. The problems with the Rox start and end with him.

Miguel Cabrera played his last game this afternoon in Detroit. Cabrera retires with 3,174 hits, 511 home runs, a career batting average of .306 and 627 doubles. Those stats put him as only the 3rd player to have 3,000 hits, 500 home runs and a lifetime batting average over .300. He joins Hank Aaron and Willie Mays in that category. He joins Hank Aaron and Albert Pujols as only the 3rd player to hit 3,000 hits, 500 home runs and 600 doubles. He was also one of the friendliest players you could hope to run into as a fan. The Detroit Tigers have already made him a Special Advisor to Team President, Scott Harris.

Always seemed like a good guy, even from an opponent's side. I assume he'll be a first ballot HoFer, but there's always a few asshole voters who don't want a guy in on their first ballot. I'll never get that.

And with that, there are no more active players in Major League Baseball to have ever faced off against the Montreal Expos.

Man, what a player. Can't remember who said it when he first came up but they said he was simply born to hit a baseball. Might have been Mark McGwire.

Diamondbacks vs. Rangers in the World Series. Who saw that coming?

Both teams barely squeaked into the postseason. Unreal.

Gotta absolutely SUUUUUUCK to be a Philly sports fan the last 365 days or so. They've witnessed the Birds losing the Super Bowl, the Phillies losing game 7 of the NLCS, their soccer team (The Union? Who cares) losing the MLS championship, the Sixers blow it in the 2nd round of the playoffs with the reigning MVP (what a joke BTW) and NHL Radio said something about how all Philly teams have lost the last, like, 30 game 7s they've played or something crazy like that.

And yet there are the Flyers defying all expectations so far. I keep hoping they'll create a crater when they come crashing down to Earth, and soon.

The Texas Rangers are World Series champions for the first time in their history. Bruce Bochy has won 4 WS titles since 2010. Legend.

Only five baseball franchises left that have never won, which is crazy to me since it's so damned hard to get in the playoffs to begin with.

Milwaukee Brewers
San Diego Padres
Seattle Mariners
Colorado Rockies
Tampa Bay Rays

I didn't watch any of the games but from what I understand they were all duds except for one. That's okay, it happens.

It is impressive that the championships have been spread around that much. Speaks to some decent parity in baseball.
But yeah, I was in a store that had Game 5 on and I was surprised baseball was still going. That might be more about the weather going from 78F last weekend to 28F this week making it feel like December.

The other thing I love about the World Series: offseason starts immediately after. Players already being moved around, free agency about to start.

Biggest free agent already off the board--Craig Counsell signs for something like $8 million per for five years with the Chicago Cubs.

I always liked Counsell as a player. Didn't look anything like a baseball player to me, nothing terribly flashy about him, yet he was remarkably consistent.
