I explained my baseball "fanhood" at the end of the 2020 thread. It largely depends on how the Isles & Yankees are doing.

No. Not anymore but with the following exceptions, Detroit is in the playoffs or somebody is about to reach a major career milestone then I'll give it a glance. That said if Covid restrictions are lifted I generally attend 2 to 3 in-person games a year because it is a good way to waste a summer afternoon/evening.

Love this. A nice day at the ballpark just to enjoy the passage of time. Who cares about the game, sit back, relax, have couple of dogs and a drink and talk to strangers. I've been to Yankee stadium twice (one old and one new) and Dodger stadium a few times. I don't even remember who won the games but it sure was memorable.

I keep waiting to see the Yankees win. They don't.

Buster Posey is back. Hit 2 HR, including one on a pitch 98 MPH up and out of the zone. Hitting no doubters further than he's hit since 2016. Finally healthy and back on the HOF road.

Rockies kicked the shit out of the Houston Asterisks tonight. That’ll probably be the highlight of the season for me I’m guessing.

Glad to see the Detroit Tigers are not doing well. I was reminded today that they hired AJ Hinch.

Fuck those guys. Fuck them all. But more importantly fuck Rob Manfred.

Somewhat shocking and surprising, Jeff Bridich stepped down at Rockies GM after a tenure that some may call one of the worst of any front office sports executive in North American history.

But it also makes the entire Arenado fiasco that much more frustrating. Dick Monfort, inarguably the worst owner in baseball, let Bridich not only run the franchise into the ground multiple times, he also alienated the best player to ever don a Rockies uniform. And then, only after paying another rival franchise to take his contract and take an absolute shit return in a trade, did he ask for the man's resignation. Reportedly Monfort was "surprised" at the fallout of the trade. This guy is beyond fucking clueless.

Unfortunately, Monfort still owns the team, but it's good to see a guy who was not only incompetent at his job, but also a surly jerk any time he was confronted about it, is out of work. Monfort promoted some guy named Feasel, his right-hand man in most matters, to be the new team president, the first since Keli McGregor died in 2010. I doubt a crony like that will save Monfort from himself, so I have very little faith they will actually go to the effort of hiring the best person possible. In addition to being one of the dumbest people alive to ever own a major league franchise, Monfort is also insanely lazy. He has a rep for not having networked with anyone in sports circles, so he has no fucking clue where to even start a search for new personnel.

Anyway...thank God I'm a Nuggets and Avalanche fan.

Seriously...how do you allow the guy to make that Arenado trade and then ask for his resignation less than a year later? It's almost like Chiarelli's last couple of months in Edmonton, except with Nolan Fucking Arenado.

Sorry situation in Denver. Beautiful park, fans deserve better. Bridich early on actually got some solid results and seemed to figure out the Rockies' pitching conundrum. But he'll be known for alienating his stars, blowing stacks in free agency and squandering a talented young rotation.

And with the NL West shaping up to be a juggernaut at the top, with the Giants and DBacks playing scrappy baseball for the last Wild Card, the Rox look like they'll be bottom feeders for the foreseeable future.

Could a new GM convince Story to stay? Any point?

Naw, if he knows what's good for him, he's gonna find more money and more success elsewhere.

The, um, somewhat good news is that Monfort is willing to spend, the problem is he'll only go as far as it's good for business. He let Bridich spend millions on innumerable free agents who promptly came in and stunk. Ian Desmond may have been the worst player in baseball during his time in CO, and the experience along with the pandemic so utterly broke him that he opted out both last year and this year, the final two seasons of his awful contract. Bridich was also allowed to spend tens of millions on one of the worst bullpens in baseball--completely undermining what good he did with the starting rotation. Monfort just cared that the Rox kept making money, he didn't care that both he and Dan O'Dud were egregiously incompetent GMs who treated Coors Field like it was the enemy.

Oakland Athletics officially threatening to move because the new stadium project isn't moving fast enough to their liking.

It's a shame MLB doesn't seem genuinely interested in expanding and sharing the pie. Nashville, Portland, Charlotte, Austin/San Antonio, Vegas (indoor?), and even Montreal/Vancouver could all be plausible MLB cities.

I wonder if Oakland will try to find space in San Jose, but the Giants would fight tooth and nail.

They should take Bettman as their new commissioner. They'll have 312 teams by 2025.

It'll be Vegas. And Oakland fans deserve to not have a sports team.

For money reasons Vegas, but for playing reasons it's a terrible choice. Too hot, dry and elevated. They'd have to play indoors, which defeats the purpose of baseball. Then again they do it in Phoenix.
