I'm officially jumping ship, sorry Sask. The new Alouettes uniforms are kinda meh overall but that new logo and helmet are just too awesome for words.

It's an M, it's a bird, it's a Fleur-de-Lys, it's effin' perfect.

And hey, I can say I joined at the ground floor!

Go Als!

The Alouettes finally have new owners: Ontario businessmen Gary Stern and Sig Spiegel. Too bad they couldn't find local owners (a bunch applied, mostly for show), but these guys look legit. They have the money and seem very Canadian. They also have two offices in Quebec, so they're familiar with the province.

The CFL goes through ebbs and flows, but I think Canada's league is primed for good times ahead. Montreal is now settled, Halifax has never been closer and Ottawa had a rough go last year but have stable ownership. Of course the West continues to love their 3-down handegg, with Winnipeg breaking their streak of futility.

Not too worried about the XFL, or any other startup league, stealing talent.

Now the Alouettes have a GM: former Esks GM and coach Danny Maciocia. Only coach to win a Grey Cup and a Vanier Cup. He left Edmonton in a hurry, but built the winning Universite de Montreal Carabins football program from the ground up into a powerhouse. He's a local guy, bilingual and has deep roots in Canadian football. He's also very opinionated and clashes with people from time to time, including longtime frenemy Jacques Chapdelaine.

He's wanted the Als gig for a long time. Now it's his.

CFL and XFL are collaborating. Protective CFL folks are worried about shacking up with the WWE, but The Rock has CFL ties, and by teaming up in economically uncertain times, they can freely exchange players without fighting over them and share some short-term costs on the promotional and production side. Probably a necessary evil to stay in the game, so I understand why they're doing it.

As I said to Wyshynski on Twitter, get ready for He Rather Displeased With Me.

Oh boy...Sask just informed me that the Roughriders (my default CFL team, but I'm considering jumping ship to the Als because they have the best uniforms) just signed Broncos mega-bust Paxton Lynch. Good luck bro--he's big, and he's got a big arm, but that's about it.

I keep trying to get into the football/CFL.... but man.... 3 downs suck. I still think they should switch to 4 downs and change the field measurements to meters (110 yards equals 100 meters). The wide fields should still keep it a passing league, but with 4 downs, I imagine the running game would become more effective? Dunno - not really a football fan lol.

Aw, fuck that. The two best uniforms in the CFL revert to more mundane designs.

At least the Alouettes kept the logo. That's a brilliant design with the combination of bird, fleur-de-lys, and letter M all combined. I think there's even an "A" implied there as well.
