I thought it had gotten past thinking that a guy with one awesome game and excusing his high numbers as "pitching to the score" should be in the HOF, but I guess not.

The Giants are .500. They've been .500 all season. They'll likely end the season around .500. They are a .500 team.

McCutchen and Longoria were good additions, but this team is just too old, too rickety and too far removed from 2010-2014 to make it out of the NL.

Posey just seems worn out, even though he's still a treat to watch. Bumgarner has suffered silly injuries in consecutive seasons, and now has a dangerously hittable fastball. He's a free agent after next season and unless he starts to flash signs of his old self, they'd be crazy to give him a long-term extension, especially with Cueto and Samardzija already crashing out.

One the plus side, Duggar, Suarez and Pudge's kid look like keepers, so this season isn't a complete bust. Slater can hit too and Panda/Hansen make for a versatile bench. Bullpen has also been stellar, save for last night.

Time waits for no one: King Felix pulled from the Mariners rotation after over a decade.

Rox bullpen once again implodes at the worst possible time.

Why would you wait until after the non-waiver deadline to conduct a fire sale?

The Nats thought they were still in it! Not anymore. Besides, Murphy and Adams won't go for much, and I don't think Harper will move.

Giants in the same boat: thought they were a good week away from being back in it, held on at the deadline, then went downhill immediately after. McCutchen will likely go to a contender.

They're saying on SXM Radio that Harper was put on waivers and claimed by the Dodgers, then pulled him back.

I'm guessing the Rox stick with what they have. If anything, they send someone down to make room for Matt Holliday, who's been busy working his way back up through the minors.

Just beat the damn Dodgers for me. Arizona and Colorado in the playoffs would be fun.

I'm still preparing myself for hearbreak. This Rockies team has talent to spare but are also extraordinarily erratic. I could still see them stumbling down the stretch, even though they just ran a gauntlet of sorts the past month and dominated.

With Astros folding like a cheap tent at the worst possible time, can anyone really pose a threat the Sox in the AL at this point in the proceedings?

McCutchen traded to Yankees and Steven Duggar gone for the season. Gonna be a boring September in SF.

In hindsight, dealing Matt Duffy, Lucius Fox, Christian Arroyo, Bryan Reynolds and Kyle Crick for Cutch, Longoria and Matt Freakin Moore was not the greatest idea.

Not really sure how they approach next season:

C: Posey 50/50 ready opening day. Bart coming 2020
1B: Another season where Belt mashes, gets hurt and loses his power, ends with decent numbers. Meh. Could be moved for SP/OF help
2B: Panik done by multiple injuries. Lost at the plate and fielding has declined. I think they'll sign Dozier or someone
3B: Longoria stinks. Unmoveable contract. Dealt only heir apparent (Arroyo) to get him. Whoops
SS: Crawford ok
LF: No one. Slater isn't a starter, Williamson has concussion issues. Gorkys maybe?
CF: Duggar ok
RF: No one

Pitching is fine. Might need to re-sign Holland and another starter if Samardzija isn't healthy. Cueto out with TJ.

After it's revealed he'll need Tommy John surgery, Ohtani goes 4 for 4 with a walk and 2 dingers. Ridiculous.

Trevor Story with three homers last night to reach 30, win the game, and get the sweep against the Giants. One of them was the farthest-traveling home run on record since they started using StatCast to track them.

I'm sure I'm gonna jinx it here, but this is the farthest the Rox have made it into the season in first place. All with the worst run differential of any team still in the mix. They're getting it done with PITCHING...
