I love when I've heard of baseball players simply from to the manager sim game I played when riding Melbourne public transit. According to them, he becomes very good. Pretty sure he won a Cy Young for my Mariners team.

The anemic Giants offence just got worse: Hunter Pence out 6-8 weeks with a forearm injury after a HBP.

He's a freak, though, so maybe he'll only miss a few regular season games.

The Giants have the potential to be really lousy this year, but any team with Posey and MadBum has a shot.

Toronto's great pitching hope Marcus Stroman tore his ACL doing bunt drills. Out for 2015. Baseball can be so cruel.

How the Giants win a Wild Card:

Matt Cain returns to his 2008-2012 no. 2 starter status: 200 IP, 3.30 ERA, 170 K, 1.15 WHIP, 15 W (he's only 30)
Buster Posey has an MVP-calibre season: he was sixth in OPS last season
Brandon Belt mashes 25 homers
Hunter Pence only misses April, plays well upon return
Bullpen hangs on another season
No starters under 700 OPS
A young player emerges (Duffy, Susac, Crick, Strickland)

CF Pagan
2B Panik
C Posey
RF Pence (DL)
1B Belt
3B McGehee/Duffy
SS Crawford
LF Aoki

SP Bumgarner
SP Cain
SP Hudson
SP Peavy
SP Lincecum (ugh)

CL Casilla/Romo

How do the Jays win the AL without their ace? Is the East a piece of cake this year or something?

Losing Stroman stinks, but it allowed them to put Norris in the rotation, who's one of their best prospects. Dickey, Buerhle, Hutchinson, Norris, Sanchez should be just fine.

I don't like the Yanks' chances at all. Tanaka's trying to avoid TJ by not throwing as hard. It's not going to work. Too many broken down vets (CC, Tex, ARod, Drew). Lots of hopes pinned on Eovaldi, who couldn't make it work in Miami's spacious park.

The Sox have a solid lineup, but the rotation isn't great. Buchholz is their defacto ace. They've gone from last to first (and Series!) before, but I doubt they'll be able to do it on the backs of Miley and Porcello. Lots of rookies too. Boegarts is really young and Betts could struggle.

Orioles have made it out the last few years, but no more Cruz and Wieters will miss the first month. Not really sure how they've managed to do it with that rotation.

Rays stink.

Jays have Joey Bats, Edwin and Donaldson in the middle of their order. I think they're pretty good.

I would like to thank the Islanders for being involved in the playoff race, to the point that I did not know today was MLB opening day. Hoooray!

I asked my father what he thinks about the 2015 Yankees. "They're a bunch of shitty, over the hill, overpaid assholes, who will get caught for cheating one way or another. They can shove themselves up their collective asses." So, there you have the Pops18 analysis.

I think the concern with Sanchez and Norris is their innings. Both threw about 130 last year and 110/90 the previous year. What can they be counted on for this year? 180?

Hutchison threw 184 last season coming off of Tommy John. He probably has the leash off. Looking forward to what is hopefully a full season from him. He is still only 24 years old.

They are old but if there were ever 2 guys that you would put money on to give you 200+ innings, they would be Buehrle and Dickey.

Roberto Osuna and Miguel Castro are both very young and project as starters. Long guys in the pen who will probably be spelling Norris and Sanchez. Apparently they were lights out in training camp, for what that's worth. Those are significant promotions for two guys who have never pitched above A+.

As someone else pointed out on FB, Opening Day is always great for Rockies fans. It's the only time of year we're virtually guaranteed a healthy roster.

The Jays always lose a big fish in training camp.

I really can only speak for the Jays since I don't follow anyone closely until the season starts and only hear the Jays news because I listen to sports news in Canada.

Opening Day not so great for beer-drinking Cubs fans...

Reminds me of the Winter Classic at the Big House.
