Ha! Probably.

Side note: I thought I was the a-hole who bumped a year-old thread. Nope. :D

I feel like there is absolutely no way that the league would let him go out like that.

The same league that let Palmeiroid keep playing until after his 3000th hit to announce he'd failed a 'roid test months earlier? I think they would. I also think they're glad to have him NOT reach 700 home runs, considering how many will be questioned due to 'roid usage. I think they'd love him to quietly retire, rather than having to bring up the steroid debate again.

In fairness though, he may not be on the juice this year, because he's pretty much sucked all year.

They went after ARod so hard last time around that I think the league would be more than happy to bring it up again with ARod and cite how great they are doing.

Actually, last time around was it Selig and this time Manfred? Might be different then...

Another thing to consider: ARod allegedly wants to own a team, and might buy his hometown Marlins.

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17266475

Quote:
"So there's a big difference," said the exec who first advanced this theory, "between Alex Rodriguez in Miami and Alex Rodriguez in Texas or Cleveland or anywhere else."

There's also one more reason that maybe isn't so obvious. A-Rod's friends say he wants to buy a team. There's speculation that Loria will look to sell his team in the next few years. So you connect the dots.

But could you imagine him owning a team? Every time one of his players hit a long home run, or if they get a guy hitting lots of homers, it's going to be a steroid scandal accusation.

A-Rod doesn't have the maturity or intelligence to own an MLB team.

Then again, neither does Jeffrey Loria. Never mind.

Well, in some fairness, George Steinbrenner didn't have the maturity. Ever.
