Right on, NBA, it only took 7 games for you to fire your first coach.

You'd think in a shortened season someone would've been fired at half-time in the second game.

Oh gawd... there are going to be so many "Nash comes home!" stories about a guy from nowhere near Toronto who probably only ever changed planes there before joining the NBA and actually playing road games there.

They're following the Jays example of promoting around noted local Toronto boy Brett Lawrie.

Right on, the NBA these days is finally realizing you really shouldn't hold onto a team name after you move.

Some might think "Pelicans" is a bad choice for a team name, but personally, I think it's awesome.

What in HELL...this has been a crazy sports news day.

The Sacramento Kings have been sold to a Seattle-based group, which likely means Seattle is getting the NBA back.

Guess now I can bet on the NBA with impunity at the Palms sportsbook!

Hm, I feel extremely apathetic (if that isn't an oxymoron) about this. I've mostly sworn off the NBA entirely, and while I'm sort of happy for Seattle, it's pretty bittersweet, since I don't like relocated teams in general, I'm kind of jealous, and also this screws over the only pro team in Sacramento (whose mayor is even former Sun Kevin Johnson, isn't he?), and it's kind of nice to have teams in less obvious places... one of the reasons I miss the Whalers so.

If the team keeps the Kings name, that's just weird (unlike Av, I normally like it when teams keep a part of their past legacy), and reminds me too much of the L.A. Kings, but then the name has already survived two other cities, and it kind of has some history behind it... if they retake the Sonics' name, it becomes like the NüJets in Winnipeg -- feels artificial.

Sounds like Bryan Colangelo's time in Toronto may be up with the hiring of Tim Leiweke to head up MLSE.

http://articles.latimes.com/2013/apr/27 ... e-20130427

A shame, really. I still think he's a really good executive, but he was screwed from the start--landed the 1st overall pick in what may have been the worst draft in professional sports history. Apart from Rondo, that draft didn't produce squat.

He did a pretty piss-poor job picking coaches though.

Wow. Just heard word the Toronto Raptors snagged Masai Ujiri as their next GM, effectively wooing him away from the Nuggets mere weeks after he wins NBA Executive of the Year honors.

This really, really concerns me about Josh Kroenke's leadership of the Avalanche if the team he has had an active hand in completely fucks up this badly. Of course I don't see Roy or Sakic bolting the Avs like Ujiri did the Nuggets. But if never, ever should have come to this. The deal should've been hammered out months ago.

Anthony Bennet is the first Canadian to be the first #1 draft pick. With Wiggins on deck to make it two in a row next year. Possibly three Canuck's to be drafted in the first round this year. Looking really, really good for Canada basketball in the upcoming years.

Good luck to him, he'll need it in Cleveland.

I think it's idiotic, but I guess it all depends on the nicknames they have. If it was hockey it would be purely asinine. Seems like NBA players would be more original than just adding "y" to the first syllable of the guy's last name.
