Hmmmm...well that's a big blemish on the otherwise good times in Washington. I'm guessing the Caps had a choice between paying big money to keep Trotz or opting for assistant Todd Reirden, and they probably think he can get it done. I personally think it's a bad move...I'd pay Trotz what he wants, not like the salary counts against the cap or something. Go get ya boy, Lou. Anyone else throws their hat in the ring, they'll have to fire their current guy to do so. The only clubs I could see doing that are Edmonton, maybe St. Louis, Detroit? Of course Detroit wouldn't pay big for Mike Babcock so I seriously doubt they do it. |

I didn't see this before adding to the Coaching Watch thread in Hockey Talk. Oh well. Rumor is Lou is getting an interview ASAP. Would Trotz want to coach for Lou, who is known for having short leashes for coaches? I'd imagine Lou would give Trotz a longer leash, considering recent history. But the Isles are also the only team currently with a vacancy. It makes sense on every level. Make it happen Lou! |

Man - in hindsight what a huge error Chiarelli made by endorsing the services of Todd McLellan in April. How much keeping him on board had to do with a soft coaching market? |
