Keith Jones, Peter Bondra, Trevor Linden, and Rod Langway will probably be keeping their phones close if this latest try at a former star player behind the bench doesn't work out.

Dreger reported that Mike Keenan interviewed for the job but was told via phone he was out of the running right before Oates was announced.

Keenan vs Ovechkin would have been fun to watch.

I bet you Iron Mike would've loved him. Dude still loves Kovalev to this day. Keenan-Roenick worked out as well. Keenan-Hull... not so much.

You think so? I saw it going more the Keenan-Hull route. Guess we'll never know, unless Oates botches it & they bring in Iron Mike (both of which I doubt).

Actually I agree w/Sask. Ovechkin throws out big hits and takes big shots, doesn't really play defense. He fits the mold of a Keenan-type player. Hull's game didn't fit that mold at all.
