Just heard Poti played a shift. WOW!

On a side note, I'm reading Oates has put Ovechkin on the right side with Backstrom and Johansson to start things out. Oh, and apparently this year, Ovi's gonna start killing penalties. Okay.

Wait, what? Eric Fehr is back with the Caps...?

Oh boy...according to Whyno, Oates's latest plan is to form a top line of Ovechkin - Beagle - Crabb (!?) and pair John Carlson, who has been struggling mightily, with John Erskine. :hrm:

This is already reaching train wreck proportions. :munch:

Budreau haters should line up for their daily plate of crow.

Can we all agree the Caps GM doesn't know how to hire a coach?

Yeah, except for Boudreau (I believe he hired Wilson too, not sure) his coaching picks have been horrible misses. Bruce Cassidy...what the hell ever happened to him?

So is this team desperate for a goalie yet?

They're currently the 10th most penalized team in the league (surprised to see Montreal is the most, but that might just be due to Ryan White's psychotic episode) and in all but one game so far, have gotten themselves in a 5-on-3 situation. They also have the 26th ranked penalty kill on top of that. Goaltending is an issue, but it isn't THE issue.

Can't embed tweets here, so I'll just quote it:

I call dibs on "The Crabb & Beagle" for a bar name.

Brilliant.

Not a great start to the year. The Caps can't do anything at even strength, goaltending has been bad, and Martin Erat is doing spot duty on the 4th line.

McPhee definitely won't outlast his coach this time around.

Erat has asked for a trade. Again.

Man, even if Filip Forsberg goes bust in Nashville, that was a horrible deal by McPhee.

But I guess it makes the sting of the Varlamov trade hurt a little less. That and Varly's play thus far.

Why isn't this team better?

Depth issues. Fragile roster. Lame duck GM who has made too many mistakes. They got a wheatfucker in goal.

Take your pick.

Also, their possession numbers are kinda weak.

When did the Rangers vault up there!?

They've kind of gutted the roster little-by-little but they made the nice Grabovski add this year. The D is pretty piecemeal. Green ain't what he used to be, Carlson-Alzner never became the stars they automatically assumed they'd be. Ditto Orlov. Laich and Erat are in decline, Brouwer is one-dimensional...

Forward depth, lack of high-end D to compliment the Backstrom/Ovi combo up front.

Um...not often you hear of this. Usually a guy who gets traded away is psyched about facing his former team.

Oates probably didn't need to make that public though.

Oates promised he wouldn't hang his dirty laundry out for the press, especially when it came to Ovechkin--the fact that he has for two players now pretty much says he knows he's getting shitcanned and is going down swinging.

I can't believe he forces his D-men to pass it five feet after exiting the zone. That's Ron Wilson bullshit territory there.

The scary thing? I bet Leonsis is eyeing Wilson for a return.

I don't know if that's swinging, or pulling under the bus.

From Scott Cullen's Twitter:

Just a terrible, horrible trade no matter how you cut it.

But...looks like Andre Burakovsky might be able to help them forget about all that.

What's the deal with Tom Wilson? Is he really just a one-dimensional grinder/hitter or are the Caps continuing to pigeonhole him?
