He's a goalie from small town Saskatchewan that starred for the Blades, so naturally he's a favourite of mine.

Check out his stats this year:

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdis ... ?pid=89936

15-2-1, 1.82 GAA, .935 SV%, 1 SO, 8 PIM. That's a fucking goalie.

When Varlamov and Neuvirth bust, Holtby will save this franchise.

Aw shit, Alzner's gotta be getting plenty pissed about getting bounced around just because of cap issues.

Comes off the bench with 10 minutes to play in a 3-3 tie against the Broons and gets his first NHL win. Good on ya, Braden! :snoop:

Um...yeah. I'm thinking the Holtby experiment needs to end here pretty soon.

When is he NOT injured? It's high time the Caps look outside the organization for an interim measure. I'm sure DiPietro could be had for cheap.

Holy shit I just read my last post in this thread...yeesh. :? My, how circumstances change.

Anyway, Braden will make his 2nd start of the season tonight against the Dead Things. Got lit up for 5 goals on 35 shots in his previous start.

So does Washington go with a Neuvirth/Holtby tandem next season or do they try and find another interim measure? I can't imagine Vokoun will be back.

Neuvirth gets the start again despite getting the start (and losing) last night. And frankly, he wasn't that great...worse rebound control than David Aebischer. Holtby can't have been bad enough so far to warrant this.

Crazy...only three games in and it feels like Oates is in over his head.

I saw them in Berlin and Montreal within a few weeks of each other. They get around.

Hey Washington? Need a goalie? We'll take Forsberg and a 1st.

For Giguere. :awesome:

No. He's a pansy for not swinging it with full strength. Anybody who knocks down a Bruin deserves swift & severe punishment from a true noble warrior, like McSorely. Come on now. Get it right.

The folks at Japer's Rink speculate Olie the Goalie Coach might be partially to blame for Holtby's struggles.

Let me ask the goalies here--do you usually challenge the shooter or stay in the net?

I'd think if the goalie is sufficiently athletic, then let him venture out a little.

I've always challenged.

I thought most NHL goalies did as well, it used to be guys like Felix Potvin were an anomaly. Now the trend seems to be teaching goalies to play deeper.

Cujo played practically inside his net with his acrobatic style.

I guess it depends on the goalie's skill set and the coach working with him. Bedard likes a butterfly hybrid style where the goalies challenge the shooters. You could see it when he worked with Ozzy to reinvent his game and you can see it in how Howard plays. Mrazek is supposed to play an athletic, kind of unorthodox style so I imagine he might play a little further back but we'll see.

So it's come to this now, eh? TSN reporting that Karl Alzner is on the block for a legitimate #1 goaltender. I guess Mitch Korn has deemed Holtby a lost cause. He did just fine before Olie the Goalie swooped in and fucked with his mechanics.
