What will EP40's contract look like? Comparables:

Austen Mathews: 5 years @ $13.5 mil
Nathan MacKinnon: 8 years @ $12.6 mil
Artemi Panarin: 8 years (2019 sign) @ $11.6 mil

So MacKinnon does have that 111 point season, and Austen Mathews one 60 goal season and a few in the mid-forties. However, with Bergeron retired I'm not sure there is a better centre defensively in the league. And he has the 100 point season last year, and steady improvement in points. He's on 137 point pace this year while playing hurt, but realistically should regress into the 110-115 point range.

I was kinda day dreaming of him signing of $12 million, but I'm now thinking he's worth a minimum of what MacKinnon is. Especially since he's 25, still improving, his 8 years will expire at 33 vs MacKinnon expiring at 36 years old.

Does he get Austen Mathews money? Does he set a new standard for the league?

Yeah. Back the truck full of money in. Do whatever it takes. He's a transcendent talent and the best player that franchise has ever had. Hughes MAY surpass him in time but for now it's still EP40.

I agree, just pay him, get it done. Going to be some hard decisions to make but this is not one of them
