Not watching game one, but Tyler Toffoli picked a good time to finally score in a Habs uniform.

Hat trick for Toffoli. Absolute barn burner of a third period, now 5-5.

Canucks win game 1 in a shootout. They led for all but 35 seconds of regulation tonight and the Habs still got a point.

Next two games should be fun, both teams can score.

Canucks play almost half the game with 5 D as Edler goes down to a mysterious ailment in the 2nd period yet still pull out a win.

Boeser and Horvat with 2 goals each - Hughes with 2 assists but had a tough night defensively. I am not sold on this D-corps as a whole let alone with 5 D. But at least Chatfield showed some encouraging signs in his NHL debut.

Pretty mediocre goaltending performance overall, especially by Holtby. The Canucks no longer have Vezina level goaltending to bail them out of games like this. Canucks team save % after 5 games is .888.

Well, that was a fun game last night if nothing else.

Holtby and Price were both lousy last night. Sometimes games become a track meet and the goalies are collateral damage.

Gotta imagine we see more from Pettersson and Hughes tonight.

Edler and Hamonic both out tonight. Jordie Benn, who's now out of Covid jail and has had a couple of skates with the team, as well as taxi squadders Brogan Rafferty and Jack Rathbone, and Olli Juolevi. Yikes, could be a blowout.

If Myers was out instead of Edler it might have been an improvement.

Toffoli and Horvat are loving this series. 2-2 after one.

Myers sucks. The Nucks desperately need him enough to play him 24 mins and he repays them by headhunting Armia in garbage time and earning a likely suspension.

Nucks D might be hella depleted Saturday, and they already gave up 7 tonight.

They already were depleted losing Chatfield early as well as Hamonic and Edler - 5D for the second game in row. 3 rookies entering into prominent roles for the first time. They're probably better off without Myers anyways. What a bum and what a fucking nightmare of a season this is going to be.

Other than Horvat and Sutter, the rest of the Nucks had 10 shots on net.

The Habs scored 24 goals in their first five games: best start offensively since 82-83.

Armia out with a concussion. Byron likely out too after taking a Weber slapper to the ankle.

Well I missed that game, can't say I actually missed it as I'd probably be throwing crap around if I watched it. None the less this is astounding.

Quote:
Myers got dominated at 5-on-5. Shot attempts were 28-to-6 for the Canadiens when Myers was on the ice.

Don't suspend Myers!

Presumably the Habs will add Perry and Frolik to replace Armia/Byron Saturday, so the Nucks aren't exactly getting let off easy here.

Myers is as guilty of a cheap shot as he was of trying to do too much to cover for his LD partner...

If this team can't outscore its defensive shortcomings, they don't stand a chance.

Hate to say it but Toffoli looks good in a Habs uni. Wish Benning could have walked and chew gum at the same time to keep one of Toffoli, Tanev or Marky...

This team looks worse than the Senators right now. Habs could have run up the score if they hadn't pulled up in the beginning of the 3rd.

The Canucks have the worst of both worlds running the show. An incompetent general manager who manages the cap as well as the NRA handles its finances, and an owner too cheap and indecisive to clean up the messes he makes. There was no effort whatsoever to move salary or buy out bad contracts (Sutter should not be in an NHL uniform, I don't care if he scored last night or not) and as a result, Toffoli walked, and it sure seems like he's dead-set on making Vancouver regret it.

Damn it - Myers didn't get suspended. Should have gotten 4 games. That would have been an improvement to the Canuck blue line.

Letting core free agents walk may have stolen the belief from some key players and negatively affected team chemistry.

Either way, there remains little doubt management has let the team down but they need to get over it.
