I had completely forgotten about the Honey Badger. He retired without us acknowledging what a really good player he was for the Nucks for so many years.

Quote:
On 2 August 2018, having reached the end of his 12 year NHL career, Hansen signed for Russian club, HC CSKA Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League.[41] In the 2018–19 season, Hansen continued to play his two-way defensively responsible role on the third line, contributing with 7 goals and 18 points in 45 games. In the playoffs, Hansen posted 3 points in 9 games to help CSKA claim their first Gagarin Cup.

On 27 April 2019, Hansen announced his retirement from professional hockey following 16 professional seasons, citing physical inability

Hated that guy, but mainly because he was indeed a good player. That's one of the very, very few instances where Benning got decent value for an expiring asset instead of just letting him walk for nothing.

Ferland got a NMC? Could be a thing come expansion time.

Still gotta figure out how to dump Eriksson and Sutter, because they've gotta start thinking about their studs long-term. Benning is handing out deals like the cap doesn't exist.

Other teams were involved but on 3-year deals. Ferland's NMC turns into a modified NTC for the 3rd year of deal so he does not require expansion draft protection.

Do we even know if Benning has actually spoken with Eriksson and his camp like he said he was going to?

Inexcusable that they haven't moved Eriksson, the time to do so would've been before or at the draft. Now it's going to be much harder to find teams willing to weaponize cap space to take that salary on. The fact they've now backed themselves into a corner and HAVE to move Eriksson just to fit Boeser under the cap is going to make it exponentially harder to move him, because the other GMs now know he's in deep shit.

I feel like there's a bit of desperation in the air in Vancouver. Benning and Weisbrod have sold their "vision" to Aquilini that they can be competitive while they rebuild on the fly, and they haven't fulfilled that promise. Now they've backed themselves into a corner with the J.T. Miller trade, and know that if they unintentionally tank it again they could be sending a very high draft pick either this year or next year to Tampa. A dumb move that looks even dumber when they already saw what could happen when Ottawa had to give up the 4th overall pick for a player they didn't even have anymore.

And yes, I used "backed themselves into a corner" twice, because somehow this management team has managed to do so on at least two fronts, maybe more. The saving graces are that they do indeed have a good coach and a good core of young talent. If those two factors win out, then Bennbrod look good. If it doesn't, expect at least one head to roll at the end of the season.
