We're in, with 101 points! I figured no way they would bounce back that far, and would be a bubble team with 94-95 points at best.

- Was hoping for a bounce back year from Hank with maybe 65 points but 73! and definitely didn't expect Daniel to make top 10 in league scoring.
- Horvat, damn the kid can play, honestly performing at a level I didn't expect for another 2 years.
- Canucks Army had a recent post arguing that Tanev maybe the best defensive defenceman in the league for his ability to turn possession and shot differential in the teams favour. Correct or not, he has certainly emerged to be comparable to what Hamhuis was a few season ago, in other words one of the very best in the league.
- And Weber oh my, he has managed to turn an anemic power play into something to be feared and very serviceable # 4 dman

BTW how bad a coach is Tortorella? Rangers and Canucks have both been far better without him, have to think his Stanley Cup win had more to do with him being lucky to land a supremely talented team than anything he contributed.

Lots of nice surprises got them to the playoffs and with Lack in net I am feeling pretty confident about the upcoming series with Calgary.

I'll never understand quite what happened to Torts. He changed philosophies right at a time when his more up-tempo approach with the Bolts would've been more effective. His TB teams of course clutched and grabbed with the best of them, but he never emphasized shot blocking to the insane degree he did in NY and VAN. It's like the guy just lost his way. I hope he finds it sometime, somewhere with another team.

Consider how good the Rangers have been under AV and how bad the Nucks were I doubt he ever gets a chance.

He played the Sedin's nearly to death. Ignored what everyone said about Vancouver travel and how it would wear players down. Desjardins has trimmed about 4 minutes a night off them and they have been better and look fresher. Torts had a bed installed in his office, if anyone should understand the importance of rest it should have been that guy.

But I did like his candor.

From PITB. looking forward to some serious Sedinery

Quote:
36.4 - One of the Flames’ bottom pairing defencemen is Deryk Engelland, but he’s been averaging close to 20 minutes per game since Giordano’s injury, playing in the top four alongside TJ Brodie. The Flames’ corsi percentage when Brodie and Engelland are together on the ice is an abysmal 36.4%, so it will be important for the Canucks to take advantage of Engelland’s side of the ice when facing that pairing.

So Eddie is signing off of twitter for the playoffs but his Mom is taking over. :D

https://twitter.com/mammamialack/status/587700827298607105

Has any Canuck ever endeared himself to the fans as quickly? Trev, Pavel certainly for their talent and body of work and Gino, Stan and Tiger for their heart. Eddie's in a different category, his never ending optimism and interaction with fans, media and use of social media just makes him different and special.

If he steals a cup he can run for Premier.

I'm not a fan of Desjardin's but one thing I thought he did really well throughout the season was managing ice time. Rolling all four lines in Vancouver with its travel issues is important to not wear out the Sedins. Listening to Shorthouse yesterday and it turns out BenLinden actually went to San Antonio (Spurs) last summer to speak with staff there about how they have managed to play/train and extend the careers of Ginoboli/Duncan/Parker and using the bench and keeping the minutes lower for the stars was key. So it was not really a Desjardin initiative but came from senior management.

The season was good as a result. And now that we're in the playoffs I was hoping/expecting that would change. That Bieksa/Sbisa and third and fourth line minutes would drop. If so this could really benefit the Nucks and make them a bit of a sleeping dark horse where their regular season advanced stats would be below what we might expect with a different deployment of minutes to their players. However its not to be, still rolling all four lines. Sbisa 17:41, Bieksa 19:18, Hamhuis 20:20, 20:57. Hansen/Kenis/Dorsett/Horvat all 13-14 minutes where Burrows had 14:54 and Daniel 16:14.

Good grief Desjardin, you kept the stars fresh all season for a reason. Time to let them loose.

and Thomas Drance weighs in with the same thoughts I had regarding deployment but does a better job of course.

Don't think Desjardins was necessarily out coached in this one, but totally misread the situation in the 3rd. Only 16+ minutes each for Daniel and Henrik? Why are they not on the ice in the final 90 seconds of the game?? They were dominant all night. Coach to the situation Willy, understand the strategy and tailor the bench. Don't just put on the Horvat line because you did it all season. This is the playoffs....They were hemmed for one full minute prior to the Flames GWG. Just Silly.

Watched game one in a bar in Williams Lake - 35 cent wings were good but was a little disappointed in the game outcome. Home today and looking for the bounce back - no wings though... :fry:

and Papa sure seems to be enjoying himself. Much better game other than the Hartley intiated non-sense at the end but that game looked more like what I expect to see.

31 shifts, 25 minutes of ice time, 4 monster hits and a +2. Edler was a beast out there tonight.

He and Tanev have been the outstanding D pair over first 2 games.

Spector's reporting Alex Burrows was just taken out of the Canucks locker room on a stretcher and rushed off in an ambulance. Linden to hold a presser soon.

Can't be good when an ambulance is required.
