With the tanking Buffalo Sabres in town tomorrow night to play Vancouver, TSN 1040 are running an intriguing poll question today.

"Which team is closer to winning a Stanley Cup?"

Results

72% - Sabres
28% - Canucks

Both teams entered the league in 1970 and neither team has won a Stanley Cup.

It's true. The Canucks are in purgatory - Sabres have 3 draft picks in next years first round. And so it goes.....

Quote:
The bad news is they are stuck in an awkward phase of rebuilding-on-the-fly and can’t afford to give up a draft pick, or any prospect who may be worth a damn in two or three years.

If the Sabres get McDavid or Eichel and they really are this decade's Crosby/Ovechkin... okay, maybe that's enough to say they're closer but my god the Sabres aren't even a real NHL team right now and building a real NHL team isn't easy to do with pimply teenagers.

Agree Sask. I could see the Sabres as legitimate playoff contenders within three seasons and being force in under six. But yeah, that's a great deal of prophesy regarding unknown variables in the future.

Sooo your sayin' there's a chance......?

Good Lord, have the Oilers taught them nothing? Tanking does not guarantee success.

I am kinda curious to know what the hell happened to Markstrom. Dude went from best goalie prospect in the league to waiver bait in like a year.

Sometimes prospects don't reach their lofty potential. But Markstrom seems to be rebounding this year, just getting blocked in Vancouver's depth chart right now. You have to think Benning needs to make a choice of Lack vs Markstrom now. The goalie trades never stop in Vancouver!

There's also Thatcher Demko to consider. Markstrom has had an outstanding season, I would think they need to deal he or Lack by the start next season.

Lack has struggled this year but hasn't been given many games.....
