Boeser invited to USA World Junior camp. Kid is having an incredible season.

Quote:
freshmen forwards of a similar age and build who produced points at a similar rate to what Boeser is on pace to do this season have managed to appear in 200 or more NHL games more than 40 percent of the time.

The Canucks youth actually looks great can't recall a time when there was ever this much talent in the pipeline: Horvat, Hutton, McCann, Virtannen are NHL players. Probable: Grenier, Shinkaruk, Pedan, Demko, Kenins, Guance, Vey and reasonable possibility of Tryamkin, Zhukenov, Neil, Jasek and Cassels. Problem is only Demko looks like a possible all-star and the teams needs elite talent to win a cup. Not sure where that comes from unless all the stars align and Shinkaruk, Boeser, McCann and Horvat all exceed reasonable expectations.

Add to that, Demko broke Schneider's single season shutout record at BC...

As very good as Demko has been, I think the biggest story from the prospects is Boeser. When his com-parables are somewhere between TJ Oshie and Toewes ( I know small sample size) that's some serious potential.

well they got Demko signed and avoided the almost near certainty he would have gone for FA next season if he hadn't been signed. Glad they got this done and he appears to be one of only two players in the Canuck's farm system with a performance history that indicates he may be an all-star caliber player.

Well, 2 down 5 to go and we're on our way to Scotty Bowman's "7 player profile" that you need as the foundation of the core group to have a Stanley Cup contender. :Butch:

1. #1 all star center - Boeser (??)
2. #2 all star center - Nope
3. Top power forward - Hmmm. Virtanen would be a stretch
4. Specialist/Utility Player/Agitator/Shutdown center - Nope
5. All star offensive d-man - Nowhere in sight
6. Top shutdown d-man - Nowhere in sight (High hopes for 6'8 Tryamkin)
7. All star goalie - Demko (unproven)

A fan can dream, can't he?

I wish Boeser was a centre but I'm afraid he slots into 3rd item on your list. But we're in agreement, Boeser and Demko are long way from all star but at least they have potential. There is a lot of young talent that looks NHL capable, but none of it is likely to play top line or top pairing.

Horvat's development seems to be ahead of schedule because of Sutter's injury... We'll see if he can carry his late season surge over the summer and into training camp. Hutton looks solid now but how he manages what I expect will be a sophomore slump next season will be interesting to watch...
McCann needs to pack on some weight this summer. Virtanen will continue to need development; whether that's with the big boys or the AHL will be interesting to watch at training camp... Granlund has been re-signed for two more years. Cassels seems to have dropped off the face of the earth - we'll see how he bounces back from injuries... I think Kenins is as good as gone.

I'd like to see Pedan get a good shot at the 3rd pairing at training camp; likewise Tryamkin. I think Bartkowski and Weber are gone... I would hope they can work out something with Hamhuis; otherwise the d looks pretty green. Stecher looks like a solid pickup; hopefully he can learn from Tanev and be a good two-way defenceman. Not sure if between Stecher and Larsen, that there's room for Subban.

Edler/Tanev
Hutton/Sbisa
Pedan/Tryamkin
Stecher? Subban? Larsen? Biega?

I think Demko is a couple of years away yet.

Boeser a Power forward? Really? Looks more like a natural goal scorer based on the projections I thought. Maybe a Patty Sharp type?

I meant more that he is a forward and not a centre as you had him slotted. He's big but not truly a power forward, just a skilled potential all-star caliber winger which doesn't exactly equate anywhere on that list.

Yeah heard about that. He sounds like a winner. Heard a story on TSN 1040 that when he was out for dinner with one of the talk show hosts, the host mentioned that he looked like a young Robert Redford. Boeser's response: "who's he?"

AGE GAP!

FYI I've been hearing nothing but good things about Brock Boeser and his linemate, Avs 1st round pick Tyson Jost, playing pretty dominant hockey over at UND (now the Fighting Hawks).

Yeah heard that too. I wonder if either team will try to broker a deal to keep them together when they move to the NHL?

Yeah, I thought about that, but I highly doubt it. Both organizations are in the same position--in dire need of quality talent through the draft to supplement a fairly expensive group of vets. And both clubs are also really desperate for more scoring talent. Jost is especially prized by the Avs because in addition to showing some real sniping ability (very much needed) he is highly praised for his two-way play (very VERY much needed).

Two words: Ehlers, Nylander. Word on the street as that Virtanen is about as bright as a sack of hammers...

The Canucks have lost a league leading 413 man games to injury most in the league by 62 games over the next team the Winnipeg Jets.

This makes them the most injured team for two straight seasons. Management needs to do something about this. I realize they are amongst the most travelled teams in the league, but it is getting ridiculous. The Gillis regime poured major dollars into the science of recovery: sleep doctors, alternative training professionals and regiments, and campaigning the league for travel relief due to geography etc. The present regime scrapped all of that, fired Gilman (who was cozy with the league) and brought in new people. It shows.

Henrik and Daniel have played in all games this season.

So Canucks Army has ranked Pettersson as the teams top prospect. Ahead of Boeser who we already all love. When his comparables make him look better than Nylander I have to think we have a potential star here.

https://canucksarmy.com/2017/09/11/canucks-army-pre-season-prospect-rankings-1-elias-pettersson/

Quote:
Pettersson’s end-of-the-year stats were simply too good for the Prospect Graduation Probabilities System, as I wasn’t able to find a single match that met the required similarity threshold. In this case, we’ll take it as a good thing. Pettersson outperformed every other 18-year-old to play their draft year in the Allsvenskan, including the likes of William Nylander and Filip Forsberg.

While pGPS came up with nothing, we do have SEAL (Situation Era Age League) adjusted scoring numbers on Pettersson, and they had Pettersson as the most productive player in the entire 2017 draft class, exploding above his unadjusted points per game, thanks to both league adjustments and highly encouraging situational scoring

Really looking forward to seeing what Boeser can do for Horvat/Baertschi or the Sedins. It's a lot to ask a rookie to break into the Top 6 but that wrister...

It's still only two preseason games, but Virtanen looks rejuvenated and could be turning the corner. :flashfap:

And Jalen Chatfield deserves a good look even if the Top 8 is pretty much set.
