Very, very good write up on Horvat and what is his likely upside (3rd line center with a couple 40 point seasons)

http://canucksarmy.com/2014/3/10/reasonable-expectations-for-the-future-is-bo-horvat-a-top-6-c

Realistic view with lots of numbers in support. If Gillis and Gilman actually believe in advanced stats why the hell did they pass on Valeri Nichushkin or Max Domi? The sad thing is this team needs to tank for a couple years, Shinkaruk is the only young guy that looks likely to make it to the 2nd line. Guance, Lain are 3rd or 4th line, Horvat 3rd, Corrado bottom pairing, Grenier and Kassian may become 2nd liners but if so it is probably more a reflection of how weak the team has become.

Elite talent is a requirement for winning cups and the Nucks elite talent is all on the wrong side of 30 with nothing in the pipeline to look forward to other than Gillis screwing up trades like the Schneider deal.

Very good write up on this years #24 pick Jared McCann. As a side note I'm actually really impressed with Soo Greyhounds GM Kyle Dubas who wanted the Canuck's fanbase know how good his player is. Didn't have to do it but thinks a lot of Jared and obviously wants the fans to be aware he is more than a "safe" pick. Suspect both him and his coach Sheldon Keefe will be in the NHL in the next few years.

Great read - thanks for sharing. If he develops into an NHL player, we may not miss Kesler for long. I'm really intrigued by the comment that he needs to not worry so much about defense and be more creative offensively...

Surprisingly agile for a big kid. I hope he comes over and gets a chance...

Markstrom cleared waivers......poor Joe Canata.

Winnipeg is stupid beyond words. I realize Markstrom is probably not even starter material but surely he's worth a shot.

From what I read they also have a goalie comparable to Markstrom who will need to clear waivers to go back to the AHL and he's cheaper, Markstrom has a $1.2 million cap hit which may have deterred a couple of teams close to the cap.

Michael Hutchence's son is probably is a better bet than Markstrom.

What the hell happened? Not that long ago he was the best goalie prospect in the NHL.

And is Michael Hutchence's son a better hockey player than Rod Stewart's?

Nothing has happened yet. Good numbers in the AHL, factor in small sample size for NHL; playing on Florida; coaching, etc and really no point to quit on the kid. The Nucks were just lucky, of the few team that could have been interested in him (need a 3rd goalie) they either would have to waive someone they coveted or challenged by the cap. Benning did a nice job with Markstrom, sent him to exhibition against the Sharks in Stockton for a game with no TV coverage keeping him out of sight and the few interested did not get to see him. He also chose to demote him early figuring teams would be loathe to waive players to make room for him. Made a very nice gamble.

Now it gets interesting. I expected at least one of Ericsson or Markstrom to put up NHL quality numbers this year and Lack to out play Milller. Hopefully Miller can be moved somewhere before trade deadline.

Markstrom is way overpaid.

There just aren't a lot of jobs out there. The Habs could put Budaj on waivers and no one would give a shit. Tokarski might get some marginal interest due to his salary and brief NHL appearances.

Michael Hutchence's son is a new sensation, Av.

I haven't watched a pre-season game but every guy in the media has moved beyond speculating Horvat might make the team to all claiming he will make the team.

Didn't really expect it but definitely a nice plus if it happens.

Well, the rookie curse continues. Last year it was Jensen and Kassian, wasn't it?

http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Canu ... story.html

Hopefully, it's nothing serious.

Liking Tanev early work to resurrect Edler's career (a goal and an SH assist last night - to bad they don't count.)

Sbisa makes still seems lost. And I hope Corrado comes back and plays better than he has...

Jensen was a shoulder injury, Kassian was brain trauma resulting in an 8 game suspension after breaking Gange's jaw.

So Horvat has been assigned to the AHL for conditioning. Which is interesting, he's not of age to play in the AHL but can be sent there anyways for a conditioning period. Hope he is in awful shape and needs about 40 games to get fit again.

There must be some wording defining a length of a conditioning assignment so we should see him soon and hopefully winning faceoffs for the 4th line since nobody else can.

No, it's maximum 2 weeks. Utica has six games in that span, and he played his first last night.

Jordan Subban is leading the OHL in goals by a defenceman. Good read on the prospects in this PITB article and the goal in the Subban video is just sick

Mallet and a 3rd rounder to the Isles for Andrey Pedan. Pedan's stats: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdis ... pid=130563

Big d-man with a mean streak, but he's behind quite a few players in the Isles depth chart.
