Well, if his agent and the Canucks Director of Player Development are to be believed, "CoHo" (I'm still not sold on that moniker) is about 90-95% and isn't expected to have issues by the time their rookie camp kicks off in two weeks. Check the Cannots lineup thread.

The Gophers' program didn't seem to hurt Phil Kessel and a ton of other prospects. Patrick White was just a bad draft selection, nothing more.

He's far from being a baby, but he might have a role shepherding the young kids on the Moose and help out another greybeard.

I'm a big Scatchard fan too, but if that hip's still bothering him he won't do you any good. Nonetheless it can't hurt to give him an invite.

It would be interesting if anybody ever kept track of all the interesting training camp invites over the years. I remember Zarley Zalapski tried out under Burkie , Jaime Linden not that Jaime had a chance , .. I wanna say Doug Bodger? but Im probably thinking of somebody else.

Doug Bodger actually played for the Canucks, albeit briefly before his retirement.

Do you mean Sergei Shirokov? Yup he's signed and coming to camp... Signed a two-way, I believe.

From one of the articles tCL posted:

Quote:
Schneider, the American Hockey League goalie of the year last season, has more pressing matters anyway. He rolled his ankle doing dryland work about 10 days ago and doesn't know whether he'll be completely fit for the opening of training camp Sept. 12.

Dang... that gives Raycroft a bit of breathing room I guess.

Raycroft doesn't need any more breathing room, he leaves more than enough of it in the net for the opposition to score on.

I don't think they were going to park both Schneider and Raycroft at the end of the Canucks bench. I'm sure Raycroft will get his breathing room.

From what I understand the back up job is Schneider's to lose and Raycroft was going to start in Manitoba knowing there's little fear anyone claims Raycroft on call up waivers ( I assume he's a one way). Remember a few years ago Wade Flaherty out played Alex Auld in the preseason but Auld was named back up caz the golden boy was way more important. AR needs a miracle to steal the backup job. Until/unless a trade happens of course.

For a team with mega cap problems, sending Schneider to the minors to play more and keeping Raycorft at league minimum as Luongo's fluffer is the logical move. It's not like Schneider is too good for the AHL... he's only a second year pro this year.

It's been speculated that AV will look at the schedule and pick 10-12 games where they can call up Schneider from Manitoba and rest Luongo, while sending Raycroft down. The day-to-day jerb of keeping the end of the Canucks bench from floating up into the air will be Razor's to lose, so that Schneider can have the #1 job in Manitoba to stay sharp. Razor's special gift is that he sucks so much no one will claim him on waivers each time he gets sent down. So on paper, they have a slightly above minimum-wage goalie backing up Luongo, they'll actually be using Schneider for about a dozen scheduled games (assuming Luongo doesn't get injured).
