I can't believe they're still pretending that they drafted Morgan Clark to actually be a prospect in the system. I'm still incensed at that pick.

Patrick White is the new Libor Polasek.

Man, good thing you're not an Avs fan if one measly 7th rounder used to draft a relative of someone in the organization ticks you off that much. Your head would have exploded a long time ago with the rampant nepotism there.

In all seriousness all organizations are pretty deep in goaltending prospects and quite a few of them are token/bullsh*t ones at that. You never know, he just might be good for the Rebels now that Brent Sutter's magical aura is once again in Alberta.

The Canucks haven't given up on Patrick White - yet. Seriously?! A first-round pick is a third line center for his college team? WTG, Dave Nonis... :fffffuck:

Thankfully, Jordan Shroeder, White's Minnesota Gopher teammate, looks like a steal at 22nd overall. Both, however, will likely go back to Minnesota in the fall. Oh, and there's an article about Matt Butcher here, too.

When there were 12 rounds in the draft, I probably wouldn't have cared. But 7th rounders can and do become NHLers. Maybe not great ones, but there are players to be had -- Henrik Zetterberg obviously being one of the shining examples.

They could have invited Clark to camp to make Daddy proud, or even signed him as an undrafted free agent if they felt like wasting money. Why use a draft pick on a kid you know will never even come close to making it, though? I don't think he was even the starter on his junior team, was he? (edit: he played 47 games that year, so I suppose he was... Double-edit: There's no way he should have been, though... he was 3.70/0.884 when the guy who only played 30 games was 2.73/0.916 -- how do you justify that?) It's just bad management, anyway.

Also, it looks like he's on Swift Current now, so no Sutter magic. After getting traded there, he posted a sparkling 4.13 GAA and 0.856 SPCT.

I have no idea who this kid is... which probably says something if he's a goaltender in the Blades' conference (and now division if he's on Swift, who are a good team) and I know nothing about him.

Cody at the Prospect Camp media scrum saying all the right things: http://canucks.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=6&id=44816

The two newest Swedish meatba - er - prospects, Rodin and Andersson... Rodin needs to go on the Wellfed Krispy-Kreme-and-chili-dog-diet plan, and Andersson probably won't be ready for a few more years... Hopefully, he can earn a spot in Manitoba and push Daniel Rahimi.

This kid's name sounds like an Irish Swede: Evan Oberg - he believes he'll be headed for Manitoba.

Sergei Shirokov, apparently wrote:
Canuck's newcomer Sergei Shirokov (Vancouver Canucks) released some words to Soviet Sports:

I'm leaving for the NHL with a clean conscience, I always dreamed to play in the world's strongest league. There are no resentments with CSKA, before the session I had a talk with head coach Sergei Nemchinov and we understood each other. I will soon leave to take part to Vancouver's development camp.

I would be very surprised to see him anywhere but in Manitoba to start the season... This still doesn't address the dire lack of decent blue-line prospects. With any luck, MG can deal for a good prospect here...

There seems to be more and more buzz about Sergei Shirokov on HF... Also, here's an updated prospect review.

Why would they omit Evan Oberg?

CapGeek says $2.2M over two years for Shirokov. Not sure if this belongs here or in the regular Canucks thread; until we see how he plays, I'd guess he'll be in Manitoba for the foreseeable future...

Sergei Shirokov
Position: LW
Shoots: Right
Height: 5-10
Weight: 176 lbs

Most interesting... It sounds like he won't wow us offensively but is reasonably strong on his skates; hopefully, he can do the job that Artem Chubarov did for us way back when in the third or fourth line. For the first time in forever, the Cannots look like they have reasonable forward depth coming up...

Apparently, that won't fly with GMMG & co...
  • The Canucks would like to sign Schroeder
  • It's been surmised that that may have more to do with their dissatisfaction with the Gophers' program than anything else
  • If Gophers teammate and Canucks' first round pick, Pat White, is any indication, they would be well-advised to get him playing with the Silvertips
  • (As an aside, my brother-in-law is the team orthopedic surgeon for the 'Tips 8-) )

Anyone hear anything more about Hodgson's back? I heard he "tweaked" it. Which could mean anything from a bruise to a herniated disc I suppose.... :smilecool:
