Rantanen should be next but you just know he has a case to get close to Marner's numbers given his output over the last 2 years. Unfortunately that doesn't fit within the Av's salary structure. Imagine if he were to get paid more than Mackinnon's $6.3M AAV. That's gotta be the best deal in the NHL.

It's been reported that they know they'll have to make Mikko the team's highest-paid player. Everyone knows it's gonna blow right past Nate's sweetheart deal, by how much and for how long remains to be seen.

So after signing Boeser, they have a total of 25 players on the active roster, including Roussel who should be on LTIR when the season starts. They will also be just under $900K over the cap, so they will have to send someone down. Of course, pre-season injury or trade could achieve the same thing.

Goldy makes $900K. Problem solved. They also gat $1M in cap relief from sending Eriksson down.

Although I get the impression that Green will give Little Things every opportunity to make the team out of camp.

Gauds impressed me tonight. Jasek looks like a solid choice, too. I've no doubt both will start in Utica barring injuries to their bottom 6.

I hope GMJB will try to fob off Goldy or Schaller on another team before the season starts... Sutts might be expendable, too at the right price.

Barring pre-season injuries, I'm guessing:
Ferland / Petterson / Boeser
Miller / Horvat / Baertschi (Pearson)
Leivo / Sutter / Pearson (Baertshi)
Eriksson / Beagle / Virtanen

Spare part: Motte
IR: Roussel

Edler / Myers
Hughes / Tanev
Benn / Stecher
Spare parts: Fantenburg. Biega

Markstrom / Demko

Means Goldy and Schaller get sent down (waiver eligible) with Gaudette (exempt). I really like the idea of Ferland with Boeser and Petterson; having that big body forward who's smart enough to know to get the puck to the other two will be really interesting to watch. I'll also be watching for any chemistry to develop between Miller, Horvat, and Baertshi.

PP1: Ferland / Miller / Boeser / Hughes / Petterson
PP2: Baertshi / Horvat / Pearson / Edler / Myers

I can see Miller being dropped down to the second unit to give Horvat some help there, and swapping with Baertshi. Myers apparently has a bomb for a one-timer so we will see.

PK1: Beagle / Eriksson / Edler / Tanev
PK2: Leivo(?) / Sutter / Benn / Myers

Not really sure if Leivo is a good second unit PK option... Maybe Virtanen?

Apparently Benning said Baertschi got cut because the Nucks already have too many skilled players. News to me!

News to me, too...

So, in his mind, Schaller, Virtanen, Eriksson, Motte > Baertschi... Really? :fffffuck:

he's a .5 point a game player so shouldn't be going down, on the other hand he's injured a lot so I don't think he'll be missed. I'm actually more bummed about Goldobin, think he has more upside then Baertschi but apparently had a lousy camp so to waivers he goes.

We know Benny's lying through his teeth. This is just another admission that he couldn't find a way to unload Loui's bloated contract on anyone.

Gaudette sits tonight in season opener versus the Oil in favour of Sutter and Beagle on the checking lines. And yes the bottom six have been constructed as traditional matchup lines. Don't see much offense output coming from them these chaps. Top 2 lines look stronger than last season.

Forwards
Ferland-Pettersson-Boeser
Pearson-Horvat-Miller
Eriksson-Sutter-Leivo
Schaller-Beagle-Virtanen

Main PK forwards are probably Sutter, Loui, Beagle, and Schaller.

Blue line
Edler- Myers (Twin towers)
Hughes-Tanev (Mini-Me & the Gnome)
Benn-Stetcher (Dark horse pairing)
(Fantenburg)

Goal
Markstrom

Not bad. Not great. Bubble team.

Quinn sure had a "Welcome to the NHL" moment with McDavid last night. Great turnover by Sutter there.

Hughes has been arguably the best player on the roster through 2 games - speaks volumes about the rest of the team's performance.

Good read, with some fair criticism here. Was surprised no one snagged Baertschi off the waiver wire.

The “age gap” strategy was an abject failure from the start, which robbed from the future to subsidize a hopeless present.

Good insurance D-man pickup for the Wings. Biega will play limited but meaningful minutes for the Wings. Hardest working guy in show business. Was the Daley injury that bad?

Never heard of Pope. Sounds like a fringer at best.

The move was probably done with the intention of clearing the logjam of D in Utica and as a favor for Biega who gave his all for the team.

Pope was really good at the collegiate level for UN-Omaha. I think he projects as a 4th liner at the NHL level, but maybe something more at the AHL.

No surprise, they named Horvat captain. Best choice available for sure.
