Man I feel bad for Hutch. Down three zip 12 minutes in already and nothing he could do about it. But you can bet scoreboard watchers are going to blame him.

If there's one thing I can fault Dubas for it was how the backup situation was handled. Of course Babcock all but publicly denounced Garret Sparks, so there wasn't much wiggle room there. I still say they needed to get a much better backup to back up Freddie. He's not an elite #1 franchise goalie, but they always ride him like one and then by the time the playoffs start, he's burned out.

Yes. And to be fair Hutch wasn't really given a fair shot. Always playing the second game of back to back games and the team in front of him is horrid on that 2nd game.

And Hutch is on waivers if it makes him feel any better Sparks is back to being the best goalie in the AHL after being run out of town in the same situation as Hutch last season.

Not saying Hutch and Sparks are NHL caliber either but coaches and GM's need to create an environment to see and setting these guys up to fail is not that environment.

Babs showed remarkable patience with Freddy, especially that first season. Went out of his way to publicly defend him (and Freddy was REALLY bad to start, too).

I don't know how that gets fixed without Dubas making a big move for a veteran backup. Much as I despise the guy, in pure hockey terms they could probably swing a deal for Casey DeSmith, who was bumped off of the Pens roster mainly for cap considerations.

Anyway, best of luck to Kaskisuo!

Not sure where the break point is but losing to Arizona tomorrow would certainly be it for me.

Some have predicted Babcock has until the Colorado game to turn it around. If it hasn't by then I think the axe falls.

The time to act is RIGHT NOW. The Leafs will have to go on a pretty crazy tear from here on out to even make the playoffs.

Depending how the Leafs do the remainder of this year, maybe next year, assuming they keep playing this bad.

Was there any truth to the rumour that the Leafs were playing to get Babs fired?

I think he's relatively safe until next year. Boy he's got his hands full this offseason.

The Leafs could get a new coach bounce with Dubas looking like a genius.

They did look less passive without the puck last night so maybe a coach change is going to do something.

Tyson Barrie finally looked like Tyson Barrie. And I absolutely LOVE that Keefe came right out of the first drop of the puck with a Barrie/Rielly pairing. Really, that's what I think puts some coaches ahead of others these days--the sheer willingness to try something new and defy convention. That's the complete antithesis of Babcock.

I know, it's just one game, but that wasn't a bad outing at all.

Well, well, well, we are indeed in a New Era in Toronto.

For the upcoming away game against Colorado, Nic Petan will sit in favor of Denver native Nick Shore. The Leafs are practicing at Shore's alma mater, the University of Denver.

Would Mike Babcock, who famously refused to play Mike Modano for what would've been his 1,500th game, and this year told Jason Spezza he wouldn't play in the Ottawa opener, have done the same? I think not.

This should be a fun game. I'm guessing both Kerfoot and Barrie will score at least one goal apiece, because that's just what happens when ex-Avs return to town.

Ex players coming out of the woodwork to bury Babcock. Mark Fraser said 95 per cent of players hated him as a coach.

Alexander Kerfoot set to have a hearing with DOPS.

Not helping matters is that the Avs recalled ex-Marlie Calle Rosen, which might mean Erik Johnson is hurt.
