You telling me good Canadian boys Michael Dal Colle and Jake Virtanen are more talented than this kid? Not a chance. Nylander might even be better than the two Sams by the time this 2014 draft class fully graduates.

So my Dental Hygienist told me her Husband and Leaf fan woke up from a bad dream where Donald Trump made the Leafs have to send Mathews back to the US. We are just not comfortable with having nice things I guess.

Poor Leafs. What will they do without Nick Ritchie?

Well he does have over double the career NHL PIMS that Nylander has...so yeah there is that.

The three players taken before Nylander are Michael Dal Colle, Jake Virtanen, and Haydn Fleury all Canadians from the CHL.

He looks to be there already. Young players sure so things can change again, but as of now Nylander looks to be having the a bigger on ice impact than the Sams.

Oh and Mathews now has 39 goals and 67 pts and looks like he likely secured his Calder with is big end of season push he has been on.

Matthews played majority of his ice time against Keith, Seabrook, Kane.

84% possession. Even strength shot attempts were 29-3.

Yowza the Leafs are flying out of the gate. Grab some vet rentals for the playoff run and they're set.

That OT shot was hockey perfection.

The angle change as he pulled it in then released was something let alone the placement.

Go to one minute mark for replay from behind.

To expand on what Bosc said in Habs area, he is an odd mix of size combined with hand eye and shooting ability. Just feels like you don't often mix hand eye with big men.

Him and his line seem to just always have the puck to the point it seems ridiculous. He wins battles with size, he wins them with finesse, and even though he has a nose for the net on offense when the puck does find it's way back to the Leafs zone he is there putting in just as much effort in front of his own net. My god it is fun to have a player like this on your team, everyone should get one.

Matthews with a shoulder injury now. Saw 2-6 weeks, so I guess that means no one in the media really knows the degree of the injury.

Should kill their unlikely anyway attempt to get a first round home match up but they are pretty secure in their playoff spot and a Boston/Tampa first round anyway.

He's not only got the talent, he's got the personality to match playing in hockey's biggest market. Much as I hate Kane, that exchange of Hulk Hogan-esque celebrations was awesome. Give him all the puffy jackets he wants!

Out four weeks. Leafs have offensive depth so guess it will be tested.

Feck. Not again. Only person who's probably happy about this is Willie Nylander's agent.

Does this make him injury-prone?

15 goals in 14 games this season. He missed half the games so far and is 13th in the league for goals. If he starts to stay healthy in his career he should get some Rocket trophies. Heck he still could this season.

That OT winner, just fucking ridiculous. Pulls it around the poke check and in the net.
