The Leafs enter the season with one of if not the best prospect pool in the league and looks like the top three of those prospects are likely to be full timers this season with Mathews, Marner, and Nylander. All three could be in calder potential discussions though not enough puck to go around for them all to be in the running, will be interesting to see which of those three has the best season.

Then you have another group of young/rookies in Soshnikov, Zaitsev, Carrick, Brown, Leivo, Rychel, and Hyman. Don't think the Leafs have the space to play all of them but would think four to five are on the opening roster and with injuries and butt kicking all will get some good NHL looks. Oh and lets not forget that Gauthier (one of my personal favorites) has to see some time as well.

Rielly will be the horse on the back end, this is the year he needs to step up as a legit number one or the Leafs have one huge hole to address going forward. Gardiner, Polak, Marincin, and Hunwick will fill out the d as guys with some experience though not exactly tons.

Komarov, Kadri, JVR, Michalek, Bozak, Martin, Greening, and Laich will fill out the forward spots. Actually now that I look at it they have too many forwards would be interesting to see how many of the young guys mentioned can be sent down with out waivers either way forget that four of five secondary kids making opening night roster going to say three now.

Oh and Andersen and Enroth in net.

Not sure what I expect, guess an improved yet not playoff team. But end of the day the season is all about watching the big three kids and hoping Rielly and Andersen can be top notch.

Them whippersnappers need to learn how to close a bench gate properly! That hit on Kulikov looked like it hurt.

Just read on Twitter that the Leafs are sporting a 57% CF against the Wings. Nylander-Matthews-Hyman appears to be a pretty good line.

Also, message to Red Wings defense (and the rest of the NHL): QUIT BUMPING PLAYERS INTO YOUR OWN FUCKING GOALIE, MORONS.

Laich and Greening cut. They're going young.

Wow really thought Laich would be kept around this year.

As near I can tell looks like Marner, Matthews, Nylander, Brown, Hyman, and Zaitsev make six rookies in the starting line up tomorrow. Seems like a lot but they are either highly elite or well cooked prospects so should be fine and expectations should be limited.

Everybody is raving about Nylander - Matthews - Hyman line. Sounds exciting, might have to check these guys out when the Leafs come through town.

I assume the Kadri/Komarov/Michalek line will be their top line and checking line as well.

Think like a lot of teams now you roll three lines and let specialty teams sort out who gets more ice time.

Marner with his first.

His mom was in the restroom when he scored it.

Nice goal for a first one as well, good rush and shot.

He is playing with confidence right now, seems he realizes young or not he needs to be the guy with the puck and to push it.

Haven't heard a single thing about Gardiner thus far. Probably a good thing since it felt like the last 2-3 season he was the most-scrutinized player on the roster not named Reimer or Kessel.

Just read Jhonas Enroth is on waivers. Speculation abounds the Leafs will sign recently-cleared-to-play Karri Ramo.

A shame the team suspended Garret Sparks. While I understand the reasons behind it, it seems more than a little harsh.

Good news, Leafs fans! You do NOT have to rush out and get those Jared Cowen jerseys.

Go figure--Avs start the game with a penalty as always and then proceed to get their asses handed to them shot-wise like they did last night, and yet Colorado ends up scoring first.

I suppose my GDT headline for tonight should have been: We are not men! We are BIBEAU!

They are getting better at carrying the play they just need to capitalize more with tonight against the Avs showing that. It will come.

Starting to get on a role. Couple more weeks of results and playoff potential will be a discussion. Hey young team though so they could easily dump a bunch in a row.

They played an updated version of this before the outdoor game and I figured that it had to be Tim Thompson. This is amazing.

The Leafs are sitting in a playoff spot in January...sure why not. The success seems a little early if they can keep it up but the youth is performing, Mathews looks like the horse center the team needed, and the goaltending has been good. The underlying fancy numbers that I am far to macho and manly to understand I am told also indicate the team should be where they are.

They have lots of dead cap money that is coming free in the next two off seasons so they should be able to build on things.
