Lottery is the big exciting thing, but expect to pick fourth and will be disappointed they still add another great prospect plus an additional seven more picks in the first four rounds so will be a good day really. They have more young guys to bring into the NHL fold next year from the Marlies and already have Greening, Michalek, Hunwick, and Laich as vets on expiring good for deadline moving deals. Doubt existing NHL UFA's will play much in the Leafs plans this off season but do think they will take good runs at trying to get KHL right handed d-man Nikita Zaitsev and Collage UFA Jimmy Vasay, worth a shot and even if they got one of the two this fan would be thrilled. Sure the Stamkos hype train will rumble through Toronto and be huge in the media and seem like a big deal, but expect it to in reality be little more than Leafs sniffing for a major hometown bargain and having talks end there. They should also if no one else still wants to give PAP a multi year deal bring him back as he just seems to be a player that plays well for Babcock and offer a little bit of experience finish around some of the high skilled kids that should be playing next year. Goalies is a big question mark, play Bernier maybe add a cheap vet to play with him and deal with that bridge when you get there. That said if the right deal presents itself take it as they need a goalie that can be their guy and drafting one know may already be too late.

With that many high picks they're sure to make a few trades for current NHLers. Maybe not top flight guys, but probably better than prospects who are 2-4 years away.

Still think they are slow cooking for the next season they only just looked to more or less complete the tear down stage a few months ago, so 2-4 year away prospects should be right in the wheel house of what the Leafs are looking to hold on to.

Upfront they have Laich, Bozak, Michelak, Komerov, Geening, and JVR signed for next year and suspect them to resign RFA Kadri and UFA Parenteau. Then with the youth I expect should be up or have a great chance to fill the remaining spots there are Nylander, Brown, Soshnikov, Hyman, Leivo, and Leipsic that all had decent showing when called up this past season. As well you have Marner who I doubt needs to spend another year in the OHL unless he flops hard in NHL so expect him with the Leafs as he is not eligible to play in AHL. Never say never as if the right deal falls in their lap they will make it but do not see much need to chase anything at this stage yet.

D does have some holes as signed and returning RFA the have Gardner, Hunwick, Reilly, Marincin, Corrado, Campbell, Valiev, Carrick, and Harrington. Outside the first four names lots of doubt for me on the other guys being part of the finished puzzle, thought they have some 2015 picks that had really good draft +1 seasons to look forward to so they certainly could used some D for now and where I would more likely see them active. Do have my hopes up that they can get Zaitsev.

They definitely need to sign an NHL ready backup goalie as Sparks should still be in AHL.

Rielly signed to five million per for six
Kadri signed to four and a half over six

good deals in my opinion. Yeah Kadri can be an idiot, but he is a very useful players for that price and given the term must be "coachable" in Babcocks opinion.

I'm surprised there's general unanimity about the Kadri deal. Strikes me as a love-hate sort of player.

Agreed, good deals for both. Guy is a penalty-drawing machine but gotta get those idiotic suspensions out of his game. Is he what Sean Avery could have been if he focused more on playing hockey than being a complete asshole?

The hate might be for his suspension antics and raw totals which seemed to be driven by a low sh%. I think Toronto also had a crazy low conversion rate on their PP chances which could have driven down his totals. Though some people just don't like the player, maybe for other reasons. But for the price I think it's a good deal.

Some fans see the idiot he is on the ice and can't get past that and see what he contributes so there will be some fans that do not like the deal but Hockey people will be a little less biased by those things. kadri's advance numbers where apparently quite good and Babcock was giving him the tough match ups for much of the year.

And to add to other guys mentioned above.

Igor Eronko ‎@IgorEronko
GM of #CSKA Sergei Fedorov to @rsportru: 'Right from the start of the season we knew Nikita Zaitsev agreed to terms with #MapleLeafs'

Not confirmation or anything but good vibes all the same for Leaf land.

With the season and now playoff run Tkachuk Jr has had playing on a line with Marner in London have a hard time seeing how the Leafs pass on him at four if they fall to that pick in the draft.

Well lucky break. Mathews, Marner, and Nylander is a hell of a start up front on the rebuild.

Indeed it is. Leafs new logo should be a 4-leaf clover.

Wonder if Bozak is the man out with Mathews coming in, guess it depends if they are starting Mathews and C or W. Think Komarov will be great choice next year to play with Mathews as he will be a solid net and physical presence and draw on ice attention away from the young guy with his trolling ways. As of now I'd see the biggest long term need to building a contender in Leaf land is finding the right Goalie and goalies take a while to develop so would think they are looking to fill it out of organization at some point.

Quite a summer if the Leafs can add Matthews, Vesey and Zaitsev. Why not go for Stammer at that point?

Not saying they turn him down if he was to offer a sweet hometown discount but that is highly unlikely and in a bidding situation not sure the Leafs need and timing of need makes them the most motivated bidder. Though now that you mention Vesey I could certainly see adding Mathews only helping make the Leafs a better looking option for him.

Not at all. Some people just love to bash any US hockey teams, let alone southern US teams...

Every team has its share of insufferable fans, but your garden variety Bushkorn Leaf fan can be especially annoying because they think the team's success at the gate despite years of losing is some sort of mark of pride. As if it proves they're the best fans, somehow.

That is good definitely fits the hole the Leafs have for R D-men. Always a bit of an unknown players coming from other leagues but worth a shot and he is coming from a higher level of success than most in the KHL.

Marner finishes the year with CHL MVP, OHL MVP, OHL Playoff MVP, and Memorial Cup MVP. Not a bad year of Jr hockey for the kid and him and his Knights team win the Memorial cup.
