As Leaf moderator I declare the Leafs forum to be an Advance Stat Free zone effective immediately.

1st offense to obey this law will result in taunting and farting in your general direction.
2nd offense will lead to you being taunted a second time.

Are you counting those elusive "wins" things as advanced?

Sask, please report to the hockey re-education centre immediately. Bushkorn will re-assimilate you back into society.

Great.....I recall some type of discussion on this last year when I was looking at Riemer and his questionable goaltending. Life gets overanalyzed enough the last place I want to see it is in the hockey world. I'll just close my eyes and hang out with Hounsy! Next thing you know we'll have advanced stats for pools......but it did get Sask a job......so it can't be all bad.

I will agree with Cotsonika that the word "unsustainable" is taking some of the fun out of the game. Yeah, the Avs and Leafs will likely fall on their faces soon enough...but it's still fun to watch them win.

To quote the Leaf fan Yoda.

"There is no unsustainable, only previously unsustainable."

Leafs apparently think that traditional stats like shots are overrated as well. They didn't record a single shot in the 3rd and OT periods.

To be fair, they should've still won that game. The 5th Pitt goal was blatant goalie interference.

Good pun on the nhl.com front page for last night's game against the Leafs:

"I Sid you not"

Quote:
But Randy Carlyle has seen this movie before.

And he doesn’t want a repeat viewing.

“Now I feel that we are slipping,” the Leafs coach said in response to a question about his team’s wildly successful last month since a 9-2 loss to Nashville. “The last couple games. We have to get back to that more energetic, more stop and go, more straight-line hockey.

“We do have some players that are continuing to do it. But I think as a whole we feel our game has slipped here.”

He knows. In large part because this isn’t new for the Leafs.

In fact, Toronto went 11-2-1 prior to the Olympic break last season, and there are certainly some similarities in the two streaks.

In that run, the Leafs scored a league-high 51 goals in 14 games (3.64 per game) with a league-high 12.5 shooting percentage and were outshot an average of 35.8 to 29.1.

In their current 12-game streak, the Leafs have scored a league-high 49 goals (4.08 per game) with a league-high 14.2 per cent shooting percentage and have been outshot an average of 34.1 to 28.8.

In terms of analytics, last year’s hot streak came with a 44.3 per cent possession rating, better than only Buffalo over the same time frame.

This year, it’s 42.7 per cent.

Which is better than only Buffalo.

If anything, this run is more unsustainable than that one.

Buffalo has also been one of the hottest teams in the league during that time frame. :?

So Carlyle appears to have no answer for shots and possession, he acknowledges the problem but nothing happens plus his past teams have had shot deficit issues. Surprised he is still in the job given that it seems management is vested in improving these areas.

Maybe they are holding out for an off season free agent coach.

Sorry Bosc just trying to piss you off your coach will be back.

Does assists per 60 minutes count as advanced?
