So the talk is that Bell/Rogers is going halfsies today to buy MLSE.

Guess all those years of price fixing together has finally culminated in a public show of unity.

I'm going to miss blaming all my teacher friends for all my Leaf woes.

Teachers used to have a controlling interest in Bell / BCE. I think they sold many of their shares but still hold onto many.

Just sayin'

They probably still own as much of the team as cousin Larry does.

I'll check Laura's pension docs, but I think I'm right on this one...

So now can just yell at your cell phone. It could lead to some interesting responses from Siri.

Well as a fan I guess this may be somewhat better. It's not like they can spend more, but they are a public entity that can be looked upon as accountable by fans who in turn are customers in many other areas than just sports fans, which is unlike the Teachers Union. The greater the teams succeed the greater the value the content to their media networks becomes which no doubt is a huge reason these two entities are involved.

I've heard this, too and I think it's a brilliant move. Owning the content (Leafs, Raptors and the ACC) means that they can give subscribers more reason to pay for that broadband, and more importantly, gives them a compelling reason NOT to switch. I wonder if they'll equip their customers with free wifi at games so that they don't choke their 3G and 4G networks.

And people wonder sometimes why people grow tired of some in the Toronto media. Controversy is the crutch of many on a crowded stage.

“It’s all about winning and all about championships,” Mohamed said. “Championship teams drive our network business. There’s no greater commitment from the two of us [Rogers and BCE] than to see Larry and the team are doing everything to build championship teams.”

Speaking only from a Leafs fan point of view where the business supports spending to the cap then why wouldn't they be motivated to win on top of that as a smart business decision to increase viewership of their content? I assumed the quoted scenario in this thread before reading it from the strange bed fellows, yet that answer is a attempt to just say the right things in Schultz view....
