Incidentally I would think Monster would have gotten the start in this game regardless of how Vesa did.

Traditionally do coaches not like to start Rookie goalies on the road their first time?

Nice. JoGu wears #50. I like weird goalie numbers. That's why I chose #64 for my men's league team and my younger bro is stuck with it now after he went in net and I moved to D.

Theo still wears #60 right? I figure that's a result of every single other conceivable numeral being retired in Montreal. Not sure how the hell Craig Anderson ended up with #41.

Oops...did no one tell Jonas about the whole trapezoid rule thing?

I really wish they'd ditch that, to me, apart from a silly penalty given like last night, it has done little to nothing in terms of affecting the game.

On the other hand I think most Avs fans would have LOVED having this rule while Roy was still playing.

Looks like Theodore was #37 in junior:

#41 isn't uncommon for goalies. Thibault was #41, and Halak is as well. I know there have been others. I think it's a lot of goalies that want #31 but can't get it or something. #50 and #60 are unique, that's for sure.

I still like seeing the occasional goalie in international hockey (usually a Czech/Slovak IIRC) wearing #2, though. I guess that's the number they used to give their backups. Marty Biron wearing #00 for his first NHL game (and the NHL subsequently prohibiting the use of 0 or 00 shortly after) and John Davidson wearing #0 are also favourites of mine.

Generally, I like goalies with numbers ending in 0. Good goalie numbers usually, even the crazy ones like Gustavsson and Theodore. #20 is a great goalie number.

The MONSTER lands in ... the hospital!?

He left after the 1st period with an elevated heart rate.

Freakin' scary shit. Bad enough he has to play for the Leafs, but thought the health scares were behind him.

Hope the kid is ok!

2 more years by the looks of things. $1.3m and $1.5m is his salary for the time being.

Once the team settled down and Toskala was gone(coincidence?) and he stopped having heart issue he seemed to settle in nicely. May become our future Hiller-type yet so worth that investment to see how he progresses for two more years.

Well, the good news is that Busta Reimer is back, and the Leafs apparently have a wealth of goalies in the system playing well, including some kid named Ben Scrivens.

At this point, is the Monster still worth the investment? He'd have to be waived in order to be sent down, right?

Yep, and I don't think he can be loaned out to Europe at this point, either.

Why not? How does that loan to Europe thing work?

I think there's a transfer deadline in December or something. I could be talking out of my ass here.

Actually, it has to be later than December, since some junior players transfered to the CHL after the WJCs, so maybe it hasn't passed yet. Might be February.

Leafs could send him to the AHL for conditioning, but that doesn't help their glut of goalies at the AHL level.

likely will come down to what Allaire thinks of the Goalies. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Monster move on, wouldn't even be surprised if burke gave him away(late round pick) at this point if he isn't in the plans.

BTW, just read Reimer was a JFJ draft pick, as was Nikolai Kulemin. Doesn't really make up for the many mistakes he made (though I still believe he was pressured heavily by incompetent ownership) but he at least might get a small measure of redemption for that.

He also picked Tuukka Rask.
