That's about as fair for both sides as possible. Still, huge gamble that his game doesn't seriously depreciate as he enters his mid-thirties.

Barrie's as good as gone this offseason but that was pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point. I have to admit, pairing him with Sandin was just asking for trouble. That is absolutely NOT the type of defender you should be pairing Barrie with at even strength.

Easily moved/unprotected given the salary structure.

and Muzzin breaks his hand first game after deadline and is out for four weeks.

This season is annoying.

So the Leafs are 3 points up on the Cats with a game in hand. My thinking is potentially the points per game after tonight could very well be the playoff order if the season is suspended.

Toronto host Nashville and Cats visit Stars. Toronto should treat tonight like a win and in desperation game...just in case.

Leafs rumoured to be in on KHL tiny scoring forward Alex Barbanov. Mikheyev was a hit so I trust Toronto's ability to scout the K.

Jokerit LD Mikko Lehtonen signs in Toronto, a team he wasn't even rumoured to be going to. Bah.

Can't pass on guys like this if they want to come to your team. No risk and cost nothing.

What I like is that he must have wanted to come to Toronto as most if not all teams would have offered the same deal I would think. It was not that long ago when the Leafs where avoided by players with choices.

Pierre-Luc Dubois just single handedly pushed the Leafs to the brink. What a player.

I'll repeat what I said on Twitter.

He played well in this game, but I don't think you can build a legit defensive corps around Morgan Rielly. He's a tremendous talent, but I don't think he's a full-fledged #1 blueliner. And pairing him with Tyson Barrie was a horrendous mistake. He only exacerbates Barrie's defensive shortcomings. For the most part I think the tank job Toronto did from around

Even worse, Freddy keeps proving time and time again why he's a good goalie, but he's simply not a franchise goalie. That game-tying goal he gave up to Dubois was something you can give up in the regular season, but you CANNOT give that up in the postseason. Also, despite the fact that it was a breakaway, Barrie and Rielly seemed to limit Dubois's options as well as they could. Backhand was the only way he was going to get a quality chance. And yet Freddy gave him way too much net by not committing. Gardiner got so much flack in those Game 7s against the Bruins, I still don't know why Freddy didn't--he was horrendous in both of those games, and not good enough in this one.

Until/unless Dubas finds a way to improve on those two very important positions, I don't see the Leafs ever making it past the first round, certainly not the Final.

Here's where I'm concerned if I'm Dubas...he underwent pretty major surgery, so it's possible he just never got a chance to get on track, but Travis Dermott is not developing into the top-four defensive option Toronto hoped he'd be. Again, he's young and he had a major injury to deal with that delayed the start of his season, so I'm not about to say he's a bust, but they definitely need more from him.

Sandin will probably be very good for them. I've no idea on Liljegren but he should also develop into a solid option for them. If he can frickin' stay healthy, Muzzin will be a good, steadying presence.

Whatever the case, I'm sure Leafs fans will be happy to see Barrie and Ceci depart. It'll be interesting to see where Barrie lands. I really don't know as he's geared up for this offseason for a very, very long time, and now it looks like he's going to miss out on his big payday. And his hometown team (Vancouver) isn't an option as they gave the cap room they could've used on him to Tyler Myers.

Overtime goal was all Barrie, Tavares, and Anderson. Not that Reilly is a defensive specialist but don't fault him at all on the end goal the two on one came from the other side and those other guys sharing a bad turnover.

Reilly is good but not a league dominant type D, maybe see him more as the Letang type pretty good but not a great.

My issue was it seemed like they where playing a goal down after the overtime when they came out of the timeout. They did not have to score then and taking a wrist shot from the top of the circle was not the high percentage play to risk such a turnover on. Just weird to me how that went down.

I still believe the Leafs doomed themselves this season by not allowing Dubas to fire Babcock following that embarrassing first round exit (again). That is 100% on Shanahan, and he knows he fucked up. Babs should've been fired after that nonsense with Marner, but to let it go even a minute longer after his horrid mismanagement in the 2019 postseason is inexcusable. They could've just promoted Keefe and let him hire his own assistants. Instead they had to throw Keefe into the deep end and with assistants who were more in line with Babs than they were with him. Instead of being a transition year, it was a lost year.

And yeah, I know, season ain't quite over yet, but I think it'll take a miracle to see this turned into an actual run if they somehow rally back and beat Lumbus.

Dubas ain't entirely free of blame here though--I think he mishandled the backup situation to a large degree, and I don't think that had to be the case. Virtually every year, there's decent veteran backups to be had for relatively cheap. Why settle for effin' Hutchinson? What made it worse was the obviously desperate move to bring in a too-banged-up-to-function Michal Neuvirth on a PTO.

Babcock all but destroyed Barrie--told him not to jump into the play, which is precisely what makes him effective, and tried to make him into an outlet passer, which is actually one of the weaker parts of his game. He's an extra forward when out there, especially in the neutral zone. He allows your team to have a great transition game, something Rielly, for instance, doesn't. Barrie actually woke back up under Keefe and scored a majority of his 39 points after he became the coach, but I think the damage was done.

Hounsy, I apologize because I like you. But you have to know Isles fans are enjoying some serious Schadenfreude seeing Tavares be part of the reason for the OT loss.

The Leafs were about to croak, down 3-0 in the clinching game versus the Jax, but they tied it up and are now in OT. Wild, this team can turn on the jets when they need to, they just need to do it more often.

Well, they live to fight another day.

Someone on HF mentioned that when they're pressing and playing aggressive, run-and-gun hockey, they're tough to beat. The minute they let up even a little, that's when things go bad. Seems pretty accurate.

Spezza with the we "need to wake up fight" he is running out of time and he was playing desperate hockey, like really desperate. When I noticed I felt bad for him as didn't think they had a chance to come back.

Spezza knows from experience that you might get a shot when you're young and assume you'll get another shot down the line, but you don't always do.
