Seems fitting since both were taken in the same draft (1998). Richards was a 3rd round pick by the Bolts if anyone forgot, Lecavalier of course was the 1st overall pick in that draft. Since then it seems like their careers took the same trajectory. Feels odd that both seemingly declined so rapidly and are calling it quits just one year removed from their 35th birthdays, but really, not many players make it into their late thirties.

Tampa built a pretty damned good team for a while there around these two and Marty St. Louis for a while there. A pretty scrappy, ragtag team when you really sit down to look at the squad that finally won the Cup right before the lockout.

I'm definitely getting old now that I'm at the point where players who entered the league in my adult life are now retiring.

Oh, and it should also be noted that both players are secure financially for years to come thanks to amnesty buyouts.

Time for Vinny to sign a one-day contract to retire a Red Wing.

"A little bit of creativity is gone from the game."

Brad Richards is totally right. Overcoached, overstructured, boring as heck.
