They've been talking about this a LOT on NHL Radio. Maguire brought it up the other day. I think someone countered saying that Stamkos and St. Louis don't have a great shootout record.

Too bad teams don't carry shootout specialists like Petteri Nummelin and Jaroslav Balastik anymore. Ahhhh...those were the days.

I looked back and yeah, Stamkos(6/28) and St. Louis(7/32) don't have a great scoring rate.

In game situations, whenever it came up, Salo was always surprisingly cool 1-on-1 with a goalie (reminded me of Lumme in this respect). Although a lot of players seem to be better on in-game breakaways than they are in shootouts, so who knows.

I think defensemen are underused in shootouts, personally. They often are simpler with their moves. And in Salo's case, he has a nice decoy (or alternative move) with the slapshot.
