Van Damme. Think Stevie Y drugs the players before offering a contract? They should all be piss tested for their own benefit.

I think Stevie Y should have been tested after signing Dan Girardi to that contract.

It's really odd to me how the three clubs who reportedly adhere pretty strictly to analytics (Chicago, Detroit, Tampa Bay) have some pretty bad contracts on their books...Chicago especially.

Lol wut. There is absolutely no indication that Detroit is doing anything resembling adhering to advanced stats. For fucks sake Ken Holland doesn't even know what a goddam aging curve is.

Yeah, the Girardi contract isn't great. But it's also only two years(hello Kris Russel). Yzerman has his mistakes.

I dunno, both the Hawks and Bolts reportedly based their models on Detroit's and as I understood it the Wings use analytics.

Supposedly they have some analytics guys but absolutely nothing they've done is any indication that they value their input, or if they do then the input they're getting is terrible.

I don't really know what model of Detroit's they've based theirs on.

At the very basic level, advanced stats say get younger if you're old. Guys decline in their late 20's. Generate offense by getting out of your zone(aka improve your D). Detroit didn't do any of those things(wooo Trevor Daley for 3 years at 33 years old while not dealing any of the bad vet contracts with picks).

You may be right. I'm not sure how much Tyler Wright listens to the numbers guys.

Honestly, I think Kenny was under too much pressure (putting a winner in the new rink, keeping the playoff streak alive, proving they could still get it done without Babs) and lost his damned mind. I think if it wasn't for that we wouldn't have seen him mishandle things so badly.

Maybe Kenny would benefit by making himself President and having a younger guy handle the day to day, like Sather and Burke.

He'd have to kick Jimmy D out first, right?

I suppose then a retirement might happen, who knows.

Oh and I was wrong, Jimmy is a "Senior VP," Illitch's kid is the P.

Since when did Shawn Horcoff start working for the Wings!?

Also, ugh...I scrolled past and saw Maltby's ugly mug. God I hated that guy.

Bolts sign the leading scorer in the QMJHL, undrafted forward Alex Barré-Boulet.

They've done well drafting out of the Q (Gourde this season), so it's a good spot for Alex to make it. He's undersized, but Tampa has made it work with small guys like St-Louis and Johnston.

Amazingly, Gourde wasn't even drafted and started his pro career outside of the Tampa org, I think.

Tampa looks beatable heading into the playoffs. One of the teams that started off hot and is looking fatigued now. Not sure McDonagh is bringing what this slow-footed defence needs.

Vasilevsky is tired. Long season for him.

Losing Budaj down the stretch and trading for Louis Domingue has left this team depending too much on one very young goaltender. Not a good look.

As a Leaf fan would rather draw the bolts than the Bruins in the first round. Tough draw either way.

The Leafs have a better shot upsetting the Bruins than the Devils do though.

Why oh why did they sign Dan Girardi?

This team is pretty much stacked top to bottom, only the defence has three rapidly ageing pylons. Fine, no one expected Stralman to lose a step, but they never should've signed Girardi knowing Coburn was still around. Even New York, a team in love with slow footed defencemen, couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Speaking of which, Ryan McDonagh was only ok, I thought. Certainly not the big piece they were hoping for. Wonder if they move him this offseason to open up some Kooch money and go with a younger D corps. They actually don't have a ton of prospects at D after Sergachev. Cal Foote is still pretty young.

Yeah, that turnover last night alone was pretty awful.

Yzerman is obviously a smart guy but for some reason, when he likes a guy, he likes a guy and no evidence to the contrary will dissuade him. He pushed hard to get Chris Kunitz onto Team Canada and then couldn't wait to sign him even though he's a mere shell of the player who used to play on Sid's wing. And then he brought up some bullshit "internal analytics" when acquiring Girardi. No idea what he was thinking, there must be something about his game (occasional big hits, decent shot from the point) that he really likes.

Strikes me that maybe being part of championship teams as a player and captain that he might place some value the contributions of the guys that the analytics might not like a lot but that he sees as glue guys on championship teams.

The Kucherov contract...my god.

That spinorama on a dime is amazing. Kucherov just kind of looks like he floats on his skates. Just needs the briefest touch on the puck and something happens.

Again, that Kucherov contract...my god.

8 years at $9.5M. Dude just turned 25 and is 2nd to only McDavid in points over the past two years, and with one year left he will be 26 when it kicks in.

Yzerman constantly making me look like an idiot for thinking it would be better to see him go somewhere else for his first GM position in case he was bad.

Uh...whoa. Yzerman steps down, takes an advisory role, BriseBois gets promoted.

Stevie is in the final year of his current deal. This is quite shocking.

BTW, why is the 2nd "B" in Julien's name capitalized and Patrice's isn't?

Whoah...what?

I wonder if he's got some health issue in his family? Hope all's ok.

Otherwise, I hope to hell he comes back to Detroit. Oh man.
