I think we need to discuss this further. Karlsson is 29 years old......this is an 8 year deal....that's 11.5 a year until he is 37 with a NMC....so that begs the question what do you do when you don't want to pay him at 35......

I would assume the only option here is a buyout. So is that the price of business for signing this guy? Thoughts?

That's likely what will happen, and I'm fairly certain given the fallout of this RFA/UFA season that we're heading to yet another lockout because NHL teams are too stupid for their own good.

Either it ends in a buyout or it ends in a nice long LTIR "retirement." But no, I don't see him playing out the length of that contract.

I mean...hey it ain't my money. Haaso can do what he wants.

The GMs and owners are pricing themselves right back into the next lockout to get "cost certainty", which will almost assuredly involve salary rollbacks. The dumb fuckers haven't haven't learned from their own mistakes. What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results. Give huge contracts, have a lockout. Give huge contracts, have a lockout... And we all keep coming back to watch because it's the best hockey we can see in North America. So we're all dumb too.
