Wow. Would that be a cock trick? Jack trick? Four-goal/Five-finger Shuffle? The Rock-out with your Cock out?

HA! Joe Thornton has some strong feelings about the Hertl showboating controversy!

Did Tomas Hertl's fourth goal go too far? According to Joe, it didn't go too far enough.

After Tomas Hertl scored his goal of the year with a between-the-legs shot, some stuffed-shirt hockey idiots got all up in arms about how disrespectful the whole thing was. Fear the Fin tipped us off to this incredible quote by Joe Thornton, as reported by The Province:

Hearing a question to Marleau about Hertl and whether he was showboating, Thornton said:
"Shut up, have you ever played the game?"
.
When the press turned his way, he then added:
"I'd have my cock out if I scored four goals. I'd have my cock out, stroking it."

Joe Thornton: a man of simple pleasures. And unbelievable indecency.

Note to hockey: GIVE THORNTON THE PUCK.

Didn't take long before someone tried to take his head off.

Good luck with that upcoming suspension, Alex.

That might be the best hockey quote I have seen in a decade!

Good luck with that upcoming suspension, Alex.

He gets three games for getting run into -- I'm not quite sure what Edler was supposed to do there to avoid contact? He simply braced himself for contact -- he wasn't targeting anything.

Really? You're going to tell me it was Hertl who hit him!? Come on...

Elder did not deserve anything for this hit. Shoulders were down. He didn't lunge into him. Both feet are on the ice. He took the body. That's it. This is hockey.

And this time he took a pretty nasty shot in tonight's game and skated off without his gloves and stick.

DGB retweeted a possible name for the Hertl-Thornton-Burns line: Tom, Dick, & Hairy.

Perfect.

Apparently Hertl is good to play on Tuesday even though he looked bad leaving the ice on Saturday night after a hit. I worry he's kind of like Tarasenko early last year - super aggressive and lighting up the score sheet for a while, but that scoring comes due to a playing style that is not sustainable in the NHL because it will get you concussed.

Both were going for the puck and collided. Edler braced himself, but Hertl was lunging. How do you ascribe intent to something where Edler couldn't plan it until it was happening? Hertl wasn't trying to throw a hit but he -- yes, he -- ran full-on into Edler with his head lowered. Again, name something Edler could have done to avoid impact? Didn't jump, no elbow...

So it'll be a pair of rookies flanking Joe Thornton as Freddie Hamilton (Dougie's brother) makes his NHL debut in place of Brent Burns.

Funny what McLellan said about the injury.

Quote:
"Brent won't play [Monday]," Sharks coach Todd McLellan told CSNCalifornia.com. "He got hit in the teeth -- well, he doesn't have teeth, I guess in the gums -- the other night and they are bothering him right now. He'll be out [Monday] and hopefully he's ready to go when we get to Boston [for a game Thursday]."

Past few games from what I've seen looks like Hertl isnt throwing the hits like he was before. I don't know if this is self-preservation after he almost got his head taken off a few times or if he's getting too comfortable, or maybe it is just missing Burns, who seems to provide energy to the whole team but especially that JT-BB-TH line which looks lackluster without BB.

He definitely might be a bit scared with how much of a target he had quickly become. I assume he'll pick his spots a bit more.

5 points in his last 3 games, looking like he's got some jump back. Less coasting. Threw at least one big hit last night. I think when Burns comes back Hertl and the Sharks are going to get back some of that early season dominance.

That was a hard loss for the Nucks, they really outplayed the Sharks but Niemi kept them in and that goal by Hertl required boundless amounts of luck. On the good news front Sharks are becoming my go to team to hate. With the Oil and Flames sucking as bad as they do the feeling is more of sympathy than antipathy towards them these days. It's good to find a new team to despise, hope they meet again in the playoffs.
