Better than DiPietro.

I don't know.. Before he broke down I think DiPietro was better than Fleury. Certainly not overall accomplishment-wise, but Fleury was lucky enough to be drafted by the Pens, while DPahole's bad luck started with being drafted by the Isles, and only got worse from there. If you could switch their teams, I think DPahole does better with the Pens than Fleury has. And then Johnson probably would have broken his hand on Fleury's horse teeth, instead of breaking DiPietro's face, which would have probably avoided the brawl game between the teams 9 days later, and Mario making a complete ass of himself...

DiPietro and Fleury had as many really good years as each other. Rick being a worse #1 pick has as much to do with the fact they had Luongo already than it does about talent. The injuries were unpredictable.

Fleury was incredible the year the Pens lost the Cup to the Wings. The Pens didn't have a full-time goalie coach for the longest time, if I recall correctly. Meloche was more of a part-timer. Fleury clearly struggled with the mental game and it never got the attention it required.

I can't believe dumping Bylsma and Shero was a preferable move to simply getting a new goalie.

But it's not his fault Milbury shouldn't have been allowed to make trades. Or picks that year. DiPietro 1, Raffi Torres 5. Gaborik, Heatley and Klesla in between. :(

Yeah, seemed that he never got the mental game on straight. When Fleury was drafted first overall, he was insanely talented.

Side note: Was reminded on vacation of what an awesome team name the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles is.
