Gudbranson insists he will be comfortable no matter who his defensive partner may be. Something changed when he showed up in Pittsburgh. He can’t put a finger on it, but he’s not complaining.

Oh! I know, Erik! You went to a better team with actual defensemen playing ahead of you on the depth chart!

Sure looked comfortable during the sweep there Guddy. Wouldn't hold your breath with the Gudster if you're Sully.

Malkin out indefinitely. Bjugstad and Rust out too. This team, already precarious depth-wise, is pretty screwed.

Holy shit...now Galchenyuk's hurt.

Huh...didn't know they waived and demoted DeSmith in favor of Jarry because of cap considerations.

Jarry got the win in a 7-2 rout of the Jets. 2nd game in a row the Pens put up 7.

Pens find cap room to retain D Marcus Pettersson at 5 years, a little over 4M AAV.

The Ducks keep giving away useful defencemen.

Alex Galchenyuk healthy scratch tonight. I don't wish to speculate as to what may be plaguing him, but I absolutely fucking hate the fact that his detractors are sitting back all smug thinking they were right about him the whole time.

Pens are going for it, as they should. Zucker for Galchenyuk (who wasn't working out) and futures they won't need.

Rutherford doesn't let anything slow him down, even failure. The funniest one so far was when he traded for Oleksiak to make the team tougher, signed him to an extension, publicly called out Tom Wilson, then Wilson proceeded to knock Oleksiak unconscious, and Rutherford literally reversed the deal to send him back to Dallas.

Rutherford promises "big changes," so I imagine this roster is undergoing yet another overhaul.

Sullivan manages to survive for at least the start of one more season, but all his assistants were shown the door, including Mark Recchi and the well-traveled Jacques Martin.

Always kinda hoped Martin would get just one more head coaching gig, but that ship has probably sailed now.

I don't understand the method to Jim Rutherford's madness, but I can't argue with the results.

I don't understand it, but I love it. You just never know what he's going to do next.

Add in the fact that the Flyers appear to be headed back toward their madcap ways, and offseasons just got a whole lot more fun. Too bad about the flat cap or we'd be seeing chaos this winter.

He's like a poor man's George Steinbrenner.

Elliotte Friedman, among others, thinks Rutherford will target Max Domi in the offseason, completing the circle with Galchenyuk.

And Max will probably have a phenomenal start with them before he tails off like he always does.

As long as Bergevin gets something good for him. He's still a valuable, somewhat infuriating player.

Jim Rutherford came to the defence of Jack Johnson and his contract...well...sorta.

"Here's my summary of this situation," the GM said. "Maybe Jack Johnson isn't as good as I think he is. Maybe. But he's not as bad as all of the anti-Jack Johnson people think he is. I'll tell you what he is: He's a solid, third-pairing defenseman if he's playing with the right guy. He's a player that I happen to really like and I think he's a better player than a lot of people want to give him credit for."

RFA Jared McCann signs a two year, 2.94M AAV extension.

If that's going to be the going rate for mediocre forwards with arbitration rights, get ready to see a lot of guys not get qualifying offers.

Rutherford keeping busy, trading Patric Hornqvist and his expensive deal to Florida for Mike Matheson and his expensive deal. Provided Hornqvist waives his NTC...

Matheson has more years left but a lower AAV and is younger. Hornqvist is a battler with not much left in the tank.
