Sounds like Sid is probably not going to be ready for training camp. His agent and the Pens are doing their best to act like it is no big deal but this could be scary stuff.

My dad was talking to his aunt at the golf course he plays at and she said that syd was doing ok working out until he made them more intense. When he did he got really dizzy and had bad headaches.

I wouldn't expect to see him play at all this year.

There is much chatter around the Cole Hbr area that he might not ever play again.

Wow I had no idea it was that bad. That really sucks.

Mirtle says enough.

I don't blame anyone for the level of speculation going on--losing Sid for good would suck for everyone involved in watching/playing the sport--but the truth of the matter is that we simply don't know if or when he will be ready to play. I'm sure everyone thought for sure at one point Patrice Bergeron was done for good, and he managed to recover and then some. There's just no way to know how long one person will take to recover from a concussion vs. another person.

The team should just say they are shutting him down until Christmas at earliest. Would remove a distraction from the team and maybe give sid some more peace.

They should- but would that affect ticket sales?

Seems completely trivial compared to the KHL news, but Crosby is out for a while. Doctor couldn't give a return date. Crosby said he is not considering retirement. Even though I am not a fan of his, I hope he returns soon & healthy.

I'm not quite sure why he didn't postpone his press conference in light of today's news, frankly.

A lot of non-hockey reporters were already there for the announcement. National news in Canada was actually going to lead with the story until the air crash bumped Crosby to second on the news cycle.

What is the precedent for guys missing this much time to a concussion and coming back the same player they where. Feels to me like they never are, but I'm not the hockey historian a few of you are. There is a really good chance that when he comes back he will have lost a notch.

I could've sworn Bergeron missed close to or more than a calendar year and was still a top-flight player when he came back.

Before his concussion he was a budding super star putting up over 70+ pts.

He's still good but does not seem as good.

2003-04 BOS 71 39
2005-06 BOS 81 73
2006-07 BOS 77 70
2007-08 BOS 10 7
2008-09 BOS 64 39
2009-10 BOS 73 52
2010-11 BOS 80 57

David Krejci bumped him as a scoring centre in the meantime. His two-way ability is still top flight, he was Boston's top forward by far last year through the spring.

The problem with the concussion issue is that you don't know how much of it is the concussion or simply roster and age issues. Hockey careers are all incredibly short. Paul Kariya was arguably past his prime when he was dealing with recovery, so was even Lindros.

A better comparison if you use points is not to use the total number but rather where on the team he ranked. Boston is a notoriously low point total team right now.

The career track Bergeron was on pre-concussion was one of a 21 yr old back to back seventy point guy that would not have seen him behind Kreji today unless something slowed down or failed to progress.

I'm not saying he is a bad player now, far from it. saying I don't think he is the player he was on track to be.
