I don't like this. I don't think this kid can play at the level he is used to and not sustain another injury. Like all those that have gone before him he's going to have to look out for number 1 first. Look at Patrice......he's always been a smart player.....and he's used those smarts to stay out of potential dangerous positions at the cost of production. I just don't see Crosby being able to return to the cream of the league without sustaining more damage. Look at Lindros........Sid is very lucky he won the Gold medal and Stanley Cup before all of this happened.

Sid has been good about avoiding hard contact in the past. His injury was a complete freak occurrence.

That's all very true, however he has sustained a concussion, and is likely more prone to getting another one. I'm not saying that he will, but he will be more prone.

Actually I heard there is NO definitive medical evidence that suggests this. We only think this because of extreme cases like Savard and Lindros. What is more likely is that some individuals are more prone to concussions to begin with. We don't know if Sid is one of those guys. Yet.

I actually had not seen the Steckel hit until just recently. It was late and a blind side hit--I seem to recall Steckel did not receive supplementary discipline for it. And frankly from what I saw, he should have.

No doubt it was late and blind, but Steckel claimed it was accidental - said he didn't see Crosby there and was just trying to get up ice - and the NHL agreed with him. Very unlike Sid to be caught unaware like that, no doubt it had something to do with the whole outdoor game situation. Just a really unfortunate freak accident.

I don't know man. The concussion training I took as a coach said otherwise.
Everything I read tells me otherwise too.

Once you get one its a lot easier to get another as the brain takes a long time to heal even after the symptoms have gone.

http://brainsafety.com/your-brain-and-concussions.html

That's just one link.

I understand what you are saying as far as some people getting them easier than others but its all cumulative. Hey I am an old dude and don't have the fortitude of a younger guy nor the drive to compete. I just hope it works out for him because he's an unbelievable talent.

The mental aspect of going where you used to go on the ice and playing how you used to play could change a lot for guys post serious concussion.

Who the fuck cares about Crosby? SIMON DESPRES has been recalled!

Someone on HF thought up the nickname "Despregasus" and came up with this:

I approve.

Isles are thankful for that.

Yup. Shitty. Heard Giroux had his bell rung the other night and won't travel with the team. Every team in the league seems like they're getting screwed by concussions in one fashion or another.

You can't blame the NHL for trying to limit headshots (even though they're doing a God-awful job at it). Unfortunately even if they were successful in eliminating them, there'd still be a concussion issue.
