The first wrench has been thrown into what has otherwise been a near-perfect start to the Pittsburgh Penguins' season.

Star defenceman Sergei Gonchar suffered a broken wrist during Tuesday's 5-1 win over the St. Louis Blues and could miss up to six weeks.

Funny what if...if Gonchar hadn't messed up his shoulder last season, would the Pens not have been as bad as they were and Therrien not gotten fired and replaced by Bylsma?

Likely not. Shero was almost married to Therrien it seemed and it took A LOT for Shero to realize he was a crap coach (as in 6 points out of the playoffs in 11th with 6 weeks to play). Bylsma showed how easy coaching this team can be. I don't think he's a spectacular coach by any means (Bylsma), but he provides a simple means to an end for the Pens.

God, good thing for Team Russia that Gonchar is only out 6 weeks. A Russian D without Markov AND Gonchar would be a disaster.

D'oh...Sid's gonna have to go it alone for a bit.

Malkin now out for 2-3 weeks with a shoulder strain.

Damn...these guys can't seem to catch a break. Not that I'm being the LEAST bit sympathetic.

Down: Gonchar, Letang, Orpik, Goligoski. Good thing Malkin's back so Crosby isn't useless anymore. Anyone who still thinks Sid is the best player on his team, let alone the league, needs to give their head a fricking shake.

Hell of a team when your top 4 is now Mark Eaton, Jay McKee, Martin Skoula and Ben Lovejoy and you should still expect to win 50-60% of your games.

Well, Gonchar is coming back, so they will have a much better D next game regardless.
