Rutherford keeping busy, trading Patric Hornqvist and his expensive deal to Florida for Mike Matheson and his expensive deal. Provided Hornqvist waives his NTC...

Matheson has more years left but a lower AAV and is younger. Hornqvist is a battler with not much left in the tank.

Great. Bringing another scumbag to the Metro.

Remember when Mario threatened to walk away from the NHL because the mean ol' Islanders beat up his team in one game (which the Isles also won 9-2)? Such a hypocrite!

NOPE! Never mind. Not happening.

Apparently Hornqvist's contract isn't insured and even though it expires sooner than Matheson's albatross, it also carries a higher cap hit. I guess Florida's cheapskate owner won't sign off on taking that deal and underwriters won't go anywhere near it.

Rutherford should be breathing a sigh of relief. He just dodged a major bullet, because Matheson sucks.

Never mind! For some reason throwing Colton Sceviour in makes it work.

Well once the whole world knows you wanted to get rid of a guy, he probably isn't too psyched to stick around.

Citing "personal reasons." I hope this is just him saving face and there isn't actually something going on. I can't help but speculate that something might be up...he isn't a young man, after all.

They said it wasn't health related. There was a piece in the Athletic a bit ago about how hard it was for him to operate the team during a pandemic. He was already close to retirement and I think the current situation pushed him over the edge. Basically couldn't work the way he wanted.

Man, a real disheartening list of retreads in the running for this job...

Apparently he had a trade in the works involving Letang that ownership quashed, hence the fallout.

Yeah, I figured the resigning was a chance for him to save face.

As for retreads- Chiarelli!!! I'd love to have him wrecking the Pens the way he did the Oilers!!!

And it always will be so long as Bettman and Daly and/or any hand-picked successors are running the show. Teams will always give Chiarelli the courtesy interview if for no other reason than to not piss off the brass. Really pathetic they continue to vouch for that moron.

Friedman says Ron Hextall is going to be the Pens' new GM and Brian Burke the new President. That's some crazy shit.

Pleeeeeeeeeease someone record the team meetings and put them on YouTube. That would be appointment television.

Seriously. The amount of crazy in that room is going to be amazing. It will either get them back on track for like 3 Cups in 5 years or they'll explode. Obviously I'm hoping for the latter. Maybe they'll bring in Roenick or Milbury as an assistant GM, just for entertainment's sake.

Seeing how former Flyer/Islander Hextall will be treated by Pens fans should be fun!

And now the Penguins will be sued by the former employee's wife (soon to be ex-wife? I've read conflicting reports). She says she was assaulted by an employee and the Penguins covered it up, and let her husband go. Guerin implicated in cover up so it may impact the Wild as well.

What the fucking fuck is wrong with front office people???

I saw on twitter yesterday that there's a second accuser as well. Both say Clark Donatelli inappropriately touched them and the team covered it up.

And according to ESPN, Crosby is covid positive, with symptoms.

Malkin, Letang and Rust are all unrestricted free agents and according to PGH media, there's no guarantee they're coming back. Hextall might use this as a chance to put his stamp on the team.

Anyone else think Malkin heads home to the KHL?
